A handfull of chicken poo pellets tipped into a 2 gall can and covered with water and left to disintegrate, then a capfull each of tomato feed and sea weed (not to be confused with shewee'd) fertilizer, swirled around and topped up - twice a week. But the main feed should all be in the pits they've been planted in.

They reckon there is going to be a early harsh winter! Start hibernating soon!

 

+ 3 deg was positively cosy compared to the - 2.4 deg at my plot last night. I left this themometer on the pallet that my pumkin's standing on, but outside of the double layer of mesh I put over the leaves (mine also got wet overnight, but it had lots of supports and only damaged one leaf). The pumpkin itself was wrapped in a blanket.

There doesn't seem to be any sign of damage and from the increase in girth I reckon it grew over 3 pounds yesterday. If I can just keep it alive and increasing at that rate for a dozen or so more days I just might manage to get it over the 100lb mark.

I'm now going to erect some 1 m high temporary framework around the plant so it can be well covered up overnight. I'm also filling a load of bags with fresh horse poo at the stables today to place around it and provide some heat.
