What's Buzzin' or Flying Near You Today..? MK 3..

I can't wait until I can say bats are flying.. I often stand in fields for hours just watching them!

 

Here, they fly up and down the little pathway between the front gardens and the backs of the garages which are still warm at eventide (south facing) and buzzing with insects. They are about 3 ft from the front window. I too love to watch them - it won't be too long now Stephen,

Yes Jenny, they are so mesmerizing. They often take duplicated flight paths - well Pipistrelles do anyway. They have such a bad reputation because of Vampire bats, all people think bats are death mammals.. it's nonsense of course.. they are wonderful animals and deserve to be protected.

In Chester zoo they have an area called the Twighlight Zone, and it's basically a massive bat house, but there's a small window, and while everyone else is screaming, thinking they will fly into them, I just stand by the window, not one has ever hit me.. but you do feel the breeze as they fly past.. they are such expert flyers.

 

Lovely pictures Armandii. I think the birds are getting territorial now, which is probably why your blackbird wasn't happy with the dove around. I've noticed a male blackbird here sitting in the same tree all the time. I think he and other half are preparing to nest in my hedge below it.

Fantastic piccies Strongy . I saw a bee out and about as we sat outside to eat our lunch sarnies in the sun. Also, scrubbed the niger seed feeder thoroughly - could eat my dinner off it. All back up and full of nice fresh shiny seeds.

 

Great pictures Armandii. If ever a blackbird had an air of arrogance this one does in your first picture. I must say though he looks very slick in his black overcoat.

 

We have about 4, one last year was trying to hang on to the peanut feeder with great difficulty as they are not designed for acrobatics.
