I've been thinking about getting a Window Bird Feeder and your post about the birds coming closer, Jenny, has prompted me to order one! It was really soothing and peaceful to listen to the birds this afternoon sing away.:snork:

Yes, I like sitting out in the garden in the Summer, Stephen, and watching them flit around catching insects with such casual skill, brilliant!:snork:

Here, they fly up and down the little pathway between the front gardens and the backs of the garages which are still warm at eventide (south facing) and buzzing with insects. They are about 3 ft from the front window. I too love to watch them - it won't be too long now Stephen,

Yes Jenny, they are so mesmerizing. They often take duplicated flight paths - well Pipistrelles do anyway. They have such a bad reputation because of Vampire bats, all people think bats are death mammals.. it's nonsense of course.. they are wonderful animals and deserve to be protected.

In Chester zoo they have an area called the Twighlight Zone, and it's basically a massive bat house, but there's a small window, and while everyone else is screaming, thinking they will fly into them, I just stand by the window, not one has ever hit me.. but you do feel the breeze as they fly past.. they are such expert flyers.

Lovely pictures Armandii. I think the birds are getting territorial now, which is probably why your blackbird wasn't happy with the dove around. I've noticed a male blackbird here sitting in the same tree all the time. I think he and other half are preparing to nest in my hedge below it. :)

A warm spring like day ideal for a long walk.
Tree Creeper, it was either in shade or bright sunlight and always on the move.

Fantastic piccies Strongy  . I saw a bee out and about as we sat outside to eat our lunch sarnies in the sun. Also, scrubbed the niger seed feeder thoroughly - could eat my dinner off it. All back up and full of nice fresh shiny seeds.

Well, the Blackbird was back today and it's obvious the Dove incident from yesterday had given him some ideas as, for the first time ever that I know, he was in the saucer of the Bird Feeder. Normally he feeds on the ground and picks up what ever is there but he's changed his tactics!!

Great pictures Armandii. :dbgrtmb: If ever a blackbird had an air of arrogance this one does in your first picture. I must say though he looks very slick in his black overcoat. :)

Yes, he's certainly full of himself, Sheal, that's for sure! Actually, that first pic doesn't really do justice to his feathers, as they look like the bird equivalent of wearing a really smart Tuxedo. When the Sun reflected of his feathers they were a very rich blue/black, with the gold beak setting it all off. He's probably the most handsome Blackbird I've seen in a long while, and shouldn't have any trouble finding a mate.:snork:

                          Superb pics, everyone. :blue thumb:

We've had lots of blackbirds in the garden the last few days. I've never seen so many at one time. The other day there were 14! One of them had also got the hang of the bird feeder. He was standing on one of the perching pins and flapping his wings like mad to stay balanced whilst he fed.

We have about 4, one last year was trying to hang on to the peanut feeder with great difficulty as they are not designed for acrobatics.
