COMPOST REVIEW 2013

Many of these things just give Google Maps the postcode - which will be a central-point for that postcode area. No idea why they do that, as Lat/Long will give a precise point; for the "locator maps" we do for clients we set up the Pointer to be the exact entrance point to the car park / site 'coz we figure that that is where punters will need to go

the storelocate.co.uk site is generic. May be brilliant, but I think Wickes site is more likely to be up-to-date with newly opened stores etc. by way of example StoreLocate's postcode is different to the one on Wickes site for that store :(

The address doesn't change, on their site, as you pick a store ... so that link is the generic one. This is a newfangled "improvement" ... the page appears to be quicker and slicker, and indeed does operate more efficiently ... but you can't bookmark the specific bit you navigate to, nor send a link to a friend ... Progress!

 

I used the B&Q multi purpose compost with John Innes today for the first time. Have to say I am impressed. It's got a lovely texture to it and only a few little bits of twig. I shall be stocking up again when I next go! Will post a pic when my camera battery charges.

I bought another 3 bags of B and Q Verve on Wednesday. Used one, to test it, today while pricking out some plants, and it was lovely stuff Now a mega-corporation like B and Q may have several suppliers of MPC possibly ? Have the midlands got an iffy supplier ?
If B and Q has a question mark over it , who has the best MPC ? Is Wickes still in the frame ?

 

Scrungee like Harry I have no issues with Verve, just the odd twig or small lump here and there, I would say 98% clear of 'rubbish'. It could be as Harry suggests, that they have more than one mpc supplier.

 

Has anybody tried Wickes compost this year and if so was it a 70L (2012 size) or 75L (2013 size) bag?

 

Miracle Gro ericaceous compost ...


B&Q multi purpose compost with JI ...

 

The Miracle Grow is a terrible colour, but it may be great for growing plants its difficult to tell . I always prefer the chocolate coloured stuff like the Verve .

 

The Miracle Gro is darker than that Harry, think it must have been the flash.

Horrible stuff to work with though - when I opened the bags the compost was soaking wet and compacted and full of woody bits. I definitely won't be buying that again (well I wouldn't have bought it in any case if B&Q had had any Verve ericaceous in at that time).
