Your B&M Storefinder link just reports Error 404. Your link for Wickes in Harlow (correct town) places Wickes in the middle of woods in a residential area (I know it well :)).

    http://www.storelocate.co.uk/wickes/harlow-extra.html

And your link to the Harlow b&m store places it exactly where Wickes is (I was on site when they built it).

    http://www.bmstores.co.uk/stores/lo...0D9D1290-283D-11E2-B468A4BADB4726BE/region/UK

I suppose that if the Wickes locator can be so wrong then the b&m one can be just as inaccurate!

I'll have to check up on what's happening, next week, as I find it embarrassing not knowing what's going on in the biggest town near me!

Many of these things just give Google Maps the postcode - which will be a central-point for that postcode area. No idea why they do that, as Lat/Long will give a precise point; for the "locator maps" we do for clients we set up the Pointer to be the exact entrance point to the car park / site 'coz we figure that that is where punters will need to go :)

the storelocate.co.uk site is generic. May be brilliant, but I think Wickes site is more likely to be up-to-date with newly opened stores etc. by way of example StoreLocate's postcode is different to the one on Wickes site for that store :(

      Here's Wickes' own:

The address doesn't change, on their site, as you pick a store ... so that link is the generic one. This is a newfangled "improvement" ... the page appears to be quicker and slicker, and indeed does operate more efficiently ... but you can't bookmark the specific bit you navigate to, nor send a link to a friend ... Progress!

I've, sort of, solved the mystery. :blue thumb:

Wickes are Wickes, and still there. b&m moved into the warehouse across the road (not marked on their locator ) that used to be owned by Wickes over ten years ago. I'll look round next time I'm in the area.

I used the B&Q multi purpose compost with John Innes today for the first time. Have to say I am impressed. It's got a lovely texture to it and only a few little bits of twig. I shall be stocking up again when I next go! Will post a pic when my camera battery charges.

There's a lot more than just me who think Verve compost is now a load of rubbish: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/b-q-verve-compost-3-for-12-don-t-buy-get-more-for-less-11-96-1515637

I bought another 3 bags of B and Q Verve on Wednesday. Used one, to test it, today while pricking out some plants, and it was lovely stuff :dbgrtmb: Now a mega-corporation like B and Q may have several suppliers of MPC possibly ? Have the midlands got an iffy supplier ?
If B and Q has a question mark over it , who has the best MPC ? Is Wickes still in the frame ?

Scrungee like Harry I have no issues with Verve, just the odd twig or small lump here and there, I would say 98% clear of 'rubbish'. It could be as Harry suggests, that they have more than one mpc supplier. :)

Has anybody tried Wickes compost this year and if so was it a 70L (2012 size) or 75L (2013 size) bag?

I just bought 3 x 120 litres of Homebase own multi-purpose. The man in charge of the garden section let me open a bag and have a look. He told me that it had a high peat content and appeared to do so. It says on the bag that it isn't suitable for small seeds.

Yesterday Mrs Shiney used some in a load of pots ans said it's much better than that rubbish we got from Wickes last year (I've been buying Wickes compost for many years). Although it had some fibrous content it was only in small pices and the compost was a nice dark colour.

I'll take a photo today. :blue thumb:

The Miracle Grow is a terrible colour, but it may be great for growing plants its difficult to tell . I always prefer the chocolate coloured stuff like the Verve .

The Miracle Gro is darker than that Harry, think it must have been the flash.

Horrible stuff to work with though - when I opened the bags the compost was soaking wet and compacted and full of woody bits. I definitely won't be buying that again (well I wouldn't have bought it in any case if B&Q had had any Verve ericaceous in at that time).

Homebase 50% peat Multi Purpose Compost. It, also, looks a lot darker in real life than the photo. Funnily enough it looks very similar to Merle's ericacious compost!

Although it, also, was a bit damp and had been compacted by the weight of other bags, it crumbled with only hand pressure. It doesn't have too much fibre in it and seems pretty good.

The instructions say 'not for fine seeds...'

The price wasn't too bad at £7.99 for 120 Litres or £2 off when you buy three. From tomorrow until the 16th they have a special offer on. You will need to go into the store and ask for the '10% off' voucher for 'loyal' customers. If they argue that you can only get the voucher when paying for something tell them you were in over the weekend and they didn't give you the voucher.
