Hi @shiney I hope not I have taught my 3 sons to be Gentlemen and I can see that have also taught my grandchildren in the same way,I think we are in the minority and I have in certain quarters "Ladies saying to partners "Why can't you be like that";)

See i think that is lovely and very sweet and kind of you and I hope that the men who didn't, didn't feel like they shouldn't because their masculinity would be in question.

If i was able bodied and didn't need any help i would of probably gave gone thank you but I'm ok. As a sickie now i would be extremely grateful

Well you have just taught me a new word, so thank you, never heard admonish before

I would completely agree with you I cant stand people who are rude to waiters or waitresses etc I think it is disgusting behaviour. I probably say thank you too much when it comes to that stuff but I would rather be overly polite than not polite enough

I don't get people who are rude to people serving you food or drinks anyway they could do anything to it before you consume it if they wanted. Why would create a situation where that may happen for no reason.

First time I ever heard it I knew it didn't bode well ... and, as it was me that was being sent to the Big Boss to *be* admonished, well, I knew for certain I wasn't going to *like* it!

I duly presented myself, was informed I was being formally admonished, told the reason why and I was really shaking inside. I happened to query something in the reasoning and point out a teeny little fact which was inaccurate and then, having received my admonishment set off for my one hour drive home

Half way home, my pager went off and I pulled over to call home. Told I had change route, go to the main office where Not-Quite-So-Big-Boss had been called by Big Boss to inform me I was now to be "expunged" :thud: Well, I had no idea what that meant either :th scifD36: but I did know it sounded even more painful than being admonished and I really, no, I mean really-really didn't want to be expunged :hate-shocked: :nonofinger:

Turns out being expunged following an admonishment is actually rather good :phew: :heehee:

Words: can make or break both people and situations ;)

oooooohhh another new word @M thank you

expunged does indeed sound horrendous. I don't like the sound of that word at all it makes me think of horrible sounds and gross stuff

I did google the meaning but its totally different to how that word sounds

sorry if that made no sense at all

Expunge:- It is generally not a pleasant word but it depends in which context it is used. I'm sure they couldn't have worded it the way you have written it :heehee:. The use of the word is for inanimate objects and, therefore, they were going to expunge the disciplinary record and not you!! :yikes: :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Admonish is a lovely word as it means telling someone off very gently. It's normally used when you may think that they had no real intention of being deliberately unpleasant.

@Dips I'm sorry if I use words that are not too common nowadays. I'm regularly being told on here that they've never heard my words before. It's just that I have a love of the language and tend to use the words that pop into my head at the appropriate time.

Unless people learn more obscure words in the correct context they , quite often, get the sense of it wrong. Mrs Shiney was on a forum where someone used the word Dandy, about someone else, in a derogatory manner. I asked Mrs Shiney whether I could respond in order to correct their misconception. I then pointed out that the word Dandy arose to present a more masculine word for someone who dressed well and was also known as a Gallant or Beau (Beau Brummel). The pejorative terms for someone who overdid the form of dress and actions were fop, Macaroni and popinjay!!

Just a few words for you to enjoy in a spare moment. :) :wub2:

Never apologise Shiney. I absolutely love learning so appreciate being introduced to something new especially when it comes to language because i am terrible at language and spelling. Its what i have always struggled with

                  loving popinjay tho

the only downside of you teaching me new words in my ex already thinks i use too many long words and I have to constantly explain what things like procrastinate mean etc.

Oh, I can assure you it was ... that is precisely how Mr "M" reported it to me on the phone when he told me the Not-So-Big-Boss wanted to see me immediately and why :heehee:

It's in the blood @LyndaG ! It started with my dad and brothers and there are still five members of my family that ride. My elder brother restores vintage bikes also. :)

Accidents will and do happen Honeybunny. I'm touching wood here, but my family have been accident free until now. A lot depends on the behaviour of the person riding and also other road users that have no respect for them. Awareness of bikers is foremost here on the island because of TT and GP, it's not so on the mainland unfortunately.
