Hello everyone. Grey and cold this side of the Irish sea as well...

The rules about livestock in Ireland seem very odd to us. It's our legal responsibility to keep the farmer's cattle out of our property, not the other way round, so we've paid to have the wall repaired and an electric fence put up. Hope those cattle didn't make too much of a mess, @Obelix-Vendée . Sensible to stay in the warm at the moment, though...

I've made use of my "static time" with an unpredictable stomach to book places to stay in Finland. We have a cheap hotel near the venue for the choral festival, then a few days in the countryside in the cottage on a farm which I mentioned a while ago. Reviews mention the quiet, the lovely breakfast and the wild flowers... then we have a week in a little wooden cottage next to a small lake. Not a lot of mod cons, but the views are stunning, and peace is assured. I'll leave booking the car to OH, and hopefully his computer might behave well enough to book the flights as well. Mine keeps telling me I'm using an unsupported browser, and suggesting I install Chrome, which is a bit stupid since I'm using a Chromebook - albeit an old one, which may be the problem, I suppose.

Lovely to chat with someone who knows "your" area, @Ladybird4 . We quickly discovered that the lady who works in the greengrocer's shop here, is from the town 4 miles down the valley in Calderdale, from where we lived before we moved to Ireland. :)

My fingers are crossed too that the steers didn’t do too much damage @Obelix-Vendée

Hope you warm up soon @AuntyRach . If you’re chilly all day it seems to get right inside you I always used to need a long soak in a warm bath to get me back to normal operating temperature.

We recently rewatched As Times Goes By. A very enjoyable and gentle comedy

I've just had a very enjoyable time in the garden, digging up clumps of flowering snowdrops and redistributing them to places I can see from the house. It wasn't so cold as I had feared although the forecaster still showed only 5c.
I've got a blood test booked for tomorrow (not nice) but happily followed by meeting a close friend for lunch, well kind of, Hilliers are offering half price on a jam and cream scone with coffee/or tea, That'll do us! Looking forward to a nice long chat.

That sounds lovely, @lizzie27! Just been to a local group meeting, talk and afternoon tea, which included finger sandwiches, jam and cream scones, and four sorts of home made cake! No lunch in anticipation, and no dinner needed tonight. Still full up.
I must divide some of our snowdrop clumps. I moved some a few years ago to nearer the house, and it would be good to cultivate a couple more patches nearer the windows.

Good evening everyone. Hope you enjoyed your walk around Sutton Park @Butterfly6. I think you are brave as it has been so very cold here the furthest I've been is to my bins! @Obelix-Vendée have you managed to assess the damage done to your flower bed? I really hope it is not too much of a disaster. Pleased your OH had a better experience this year in getting his Visa @Busy-Lizzie. That long wait last time must have been nightmarish. Good to read your day went well but having to keep your coats on to keep warm must have been a bind. Hope you have thawed out now.

Well done @lizzie27 on all that hard work in your garden. Mine still looks like a hippo wallow. I have not had any come back from my blood test so I am reading that as everything is OK. X-ray results have still got to arrive back at the surgery. These talks of afternoon teas are really making my mouth water!
Signing out now. Night night everyone. See you in the morning.

Good morning all. It's raining and it's warm. Snow and frost are postponed for weekend, when winter should bite again. Sorry fir my absent from here last few days. I had a lot to do, including MOT with my car. We have annually MOT in Croatia. Monday afternoon was perfect for working outside, so I went to the cottage and dug over small field. Hope the frost will kill weed roots and pests. And of course, school is back.
I still have time to finish my tea and start a day. Delivery for my pets should arrive today.
Wish you all a nice day and see you later.

Good morning @Ante1 and all arriving later. I was beginning to get a bit worried when I didn't see you here yesterday, I thought that you might have run and hid away from the dreaded Monday! I am hoping for a chance to get into the garden today.

                    Good morning to you all!

A rainy day, so I am obliged to stay inside and unpack yet another carton!! Quite frankly, I'd rather be in the garden but I have been doing a lot out there lately, so a couple of day indoors won't hurt!! Anyway, the trailer is chock a block! Same weather as here @Ante1 The weekend looks to be sunny but cold.

The cottage sounds wonderful @Liriodendron How kind of you both to offer a holiday that people can probably ill-afford and I would say happy to do a few odd jobs around in return. I don't know if that would work in France. Different approach to life although there are some very genuine people out there.

I hope your cold is better @Ergates - I too, have the sniffles and my voice is going, but I think that is due to tiredness than anything else.

Thank you @Butterfly6 - slowly but surely - thank you for your comment.

Bad luck about the cows @Obelix-Vendée - the naughty girls!! We had goats for neighbours on our farm in NZ and the "farmer" on his small holding didn't really know about "farming". The damn things got into our garlic field and not only trampled over the plants, but ate the young tops! Boy! I bet there was more methane than usual when he herded them back and fixed the fence. I hope your fence situation gets sorted @Anna42

I too had a lovely much needed massage last week @lizzie27 - heated bed, warm blankets. The lady got all the "knots" out of my neck area - it was soooo good. She does from the top of my head down to my toes! I hadn't been since before the hip op as I wasn't sure if I could get up (or down) the bed!

I have found a Free Sat Box that a couple gave me when they sold up and returned to the UK and I'm hoping to get it set up as there is a dish up yonder - here's hoping.

                        Good morning all.

@Ladybird4 it was @AuntyRach who had to keep her coat on.

It looks like another grey day. I will probably sit at my laptop again, read my book and watch TV. I really need some exercise. If it isn't freezing cold I could do some more mulching.

We enjoyed our walk despite the cold @Ladybird4 A hot tea and bacon buttie halfway round helped!

It’s another grey day here again but not as cold as yesterday. The garden is just too wet to do anything so am hoping we actually get the forecast run of dry days this week.

Am debating a visit to Ikea or the garden centre for today. Going to both is a faff as they are in opposite directions and there isn’t an easy route between the two. I’ve also got to work this afternoon, so better get a move on soon

I want to look at some pull out storage options for a narrow cupboard. A pan drawer style would be much easier to use, I have to get down on my knees to access the bottom shelf, but it’s too narrow for that. We only have a small kitchen so need to make best use of all the cupboards we have.

Garden centre trip is for some seeds and a general browse, as one is obliged to do

Hope everyone has a good day

Afternoon everyone, went to a different GC earlier, we took an Allotment pal ( can't drive anymore), to get seeds and seed spuds. Annoyingly they had some different cultivars in that I couldn't get previously.
Still raw and cold so we didn't hang about, after dropping him off, went straight home didn't even go to my own plot.
The RHS are asking people to look out for some rare daffodils. Separately , they are also asking people to map when some are in flower. They are using Tete a Tete as the indicator for that part. So if you have them , report when they flower along with your location.

Anyone else finding this site very slow, or is it just my phone?
