No, only long enough for the pics, Strongy, as said, I forgot to kiss it. :D Is that really true about them getting burnt  I'll have to remember that and be very careful in future.

Lovely pics Kedi and Capney, I had a real surprise when I went to check my greenhouse this afternoon, I found this big lad amongst my potatoes. He was unable to fly away as there wasn't enough room for him to clear the fence, I dived back into the house for the camera and got a few pics before letting him into the field next to my garden where he rested for a while before flying off.

    Hi Capney
Fortunately I don't have a pond, he was amongst my spuds and flowers so couldn't get airbourne which gave me a great photo opportunity. The camera is a Konica Minolta dimage 7i which was bought on E-Bay for just over £100.

    Cheers :thumb:

What fantastic luck, Ace! You must have been very quick to rush back for your camera and still find the heron there. Oh, lucky you - I'm green with envy again!

Absolutely brilliant photos :thumb::thumb: - thanks so much for sharing!

(PS - the German cousin of yours used to come to our pond and dine on our fish until none were left. I didn't care for herons back in those days :D)

Nice shot, capney. I think it is still a youngster, it still has a bit of the soft yellow at the side of its beak.

Hi Kedi I must say your excellent photos make identifying the insects easy they are better than some of the illustrations in books, the one in the shot is called a common Scorpion Fly (panorpa communis) it's a female the males tails turn upwards resembling that of a scorpion hence the name.
