What is buzzing or flying near you today??

Kedi, I hope you didn't hold froggy for too long, the heat from our warm-blooded hands can burn their skin:(, I guess it ws just long enough for the pic.

 

No, only long enough for the pics, Strongy, as said, I forgot to kiss it. :D Is that really true about them getting burnt :confused: I'll have to remember that and be very careful in future.

 

Lovely pics Kedi and Capney, I had a real surprise when I went to check my greenhouse this afternoon, I found this big lad amongst my potatoes. He was unable to fly away as there wasn't enough room for him to clear the fence, I dived back into the house for the camera and got a few pics before letting him into the field next to my garden where he rested for a while before flying off.

Amazing..
Last time I had one of them in my garden he was on my pond after the fish.. Lucky for the fish, the pond was frozen !!

Fortunately I don't have a pond, he was amongst my spuds and flowers so couldn't get airbourne which gave me a great photo opportunity. The camera is a Konica Minolta dimage 7i which was bought on E-Bay for just over £100.

(PS - the German cousin of yours used to come to our pond and dine on our fish until none were left. I didn't care for herons back in those days :D)

Not a great pic as it was on my mobile, but this is a sparrowhawk taken just this lunchtime, it swooped in on sparrows that i had put food out for at a house i was visiting, fortnately it missed, but rested on the gate for a minute

Hi Kedi I must say your excellent photos make identifying the insects easy they are better than some of the illustrations in books, the one in the shot is called a common Scorpion Fly (panorpa communis) it's a female the males tails turn upwards resembling that of a scorpion hence the name.
