This morning has started with a fantastic abundance of birds in the garden. After yesteday's heavy rain and steady drizzle all morning they all seem to be celebrating :gnthb:.

At 7 o'clock I looked outand all 16 perches on the bird feeders were full with mainly green and gold finches and a variety of tits. The crossbar on the feeder had 7 birds waiting to move in and the willow (nearby) had at least 30 greenfinches waiting. The big buddleia had at least 10 tits and two wrens on it and the ground under the feeder had 5 pheasants, dozens of sparrows (haven't seen them around for a while), three robins, two collared doves (who chased off the magpie) and a few other small birds I wasn't sure about in the low light level.

    Thanks Strongy and Capney.

We picked some elderberries this afternoon and while I was sorting through them, I saw that this chappie had come home with us -

Woo, on our walk down to Portland Bill this (sunny) afternoon there were many butterflies, mainly Red Admirals and Large (Cabbage) Whites and this one solitatry Clouded Yellow which will probably soon migrate to the Med. They look more orange in flight but yellow closed up.

I live on a small (75 houses) 25 year old housing estate in Liverpool about 5 miles from the coast and 1 mile from the nearest parkland and it is starting to mature nicely now with trees and hedges dotted about the place and today I saw Great, Coal and Blue tits along with House Sparrows, Goldfinches, Dunnocks and a Robin all on or around my feeding station and all in the space of 20 minutes, not bad for an inner city house with a 30' x 18' garden I think.

Not a bad selection Judderman:thumb:, similar to mine (birds and garden size).
Being on a migration line I do get a few more unusual ones which is a bonus, Wheatears, Redstarts, Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs etc.

I love the Pheasants Shiney, were they taken from inside or can you go out while they are there?

Had a second brief visit from a Chiffchaff this morning along with a couple of Goldies.

    Thamks Strongy,
Those shots were taken from the kitchen but we can sometimes get quite close to them. If they're in the garden and we're indoors they tend to run away (not fly) if we come out the back door. If we are already in the garden they usually ignore us and we can get within about 3ft. The other year when we had builders in doing the summerhouse and they used to sit in the garden to have lunch. The young ones started eating from their hands. :thumb:
