I have a Cornus Kousa in my bonsai collection. They do very well in a pot. Every couple of years you need to take them out and cut the roots back...

They are growing along the pathways around here and the maintenance people seem to just cut them back with an electric saw and then leave them....
Lavender must only be trimmed on the new growth. Do not cut the old wood. The lilies will die back and come back again next year. :)
