I've not experienced sliminess on any courgettes I've bought. I only buy them now and again, usually for chopping, roasting and adding to soup....
It's generally just the smaller bulbs that squirrerls will get, because they only dig down so far. The 'usual' tulip bulbs should be planted deep...
