They don't tolerate root disturbance at all well, might get away with it in modules, but i'd do a quick test run this year, don't want folk coming back to you complaining :old::biggrin:

Assuming that permission is granted by the local council, what variety of seed should we be seeking out, what are the germination rates, and are there any special sowing requirements (particularly if they are being sown in areas where we might not be able to disturb the soil)?

But is that our native one though? If it is, I'm happy to share seeds off it for this project, and even if it isn't, I usually share surplus poppy seeds anyway.

I'm actually considering getting my employer involved - our head office site has the entire frontage of the property (except a gap for the entrance and exit gates) consisting of a wall with a 3-4ft border in the middle of it; if they were willing, that would be a riot of colour if filled with poppies.

Papaver rhoeas - Common Red Poppy.

Papavar dubium - Long Smooth Headed Poppy.

                Papaver lecoqii - Very rare.

Papaver argemone - Long Rough Headed Poppy.

Papaver hybridum - Round Rough Headed Poppy.

Then you've got the Sea Poppies and the Welsh Poppies which probably came from India along with the Celts.

I don't know what 'disturbing the soil' means. Does it mean sowing the poppy seeds then raking the soil over? :dunno:

                        Hiya folks.

Just wondering. Do Poppies persist? Is there an easy way to get rid of them? Only asking as it might be an issue for some authorities, ie:- to return land to it's original condition:dunno:

I have just confirmed on the web that Papaver Rhoeas is the memorial poppy that should be used. :)
