Kristen, I can recommend Sweet Nugget. Like Loli, I usually get two cobs per plant and they're very reliable, producing good results whatever kind of summer we get.

I do three sowings under glass, 3 weeks apart, with the first sowing in late April and the last sowing around early June.

This means I get a succession of cobs ready for picking from about late July through until mid/late September.

They're very tolerant of our dry East Anglian summers too, a few good waterings for the first week or two after planting out is all that's required and after that they're fine. :blue thumb:

Hi, Wow you corn looks great! this is our third year at attempting sweetcorn the tow previous years it was knocked down with wind damage so this year I grew it it giant containers and kept it in our pop up greenhouse til it got too tall and now its outside still in its original container. I've got 7 plants. I planted them from seed on April 24th. The silks appeared on July 28th and I waited til last Wednesday and had a peek inside the pod to see lots of sweetcorn but its still very white and didn't look ripe yet so tied it back up with string and will check again next week. How long did you wait after your silks appeared til you picked yours? I hope mine looks as good as yours eventually :)

Drained the cooking water off & then added a bit of cornflour to make a thicker sauce, don't like it when its watery.

Some lovely crops I see on this thread.

Well this has been a decent year so far in my veg patch the first time I've grown a wide variety of stuff. Some highs and lows so far ...

Tomatoes - Sun Baby ripening nicely (always reliable and early outdoors here), Marmande, Alicante, Ailsa Craig etc good crops but not on the turn yet :-( will probably be at their peak when I'm away for a month grrrr.
Cucumber - tried a new mini this year and it has been great, tasty and compact, enough for two people from one plant.
Courgettes - two plants and good production.
French Beans - tried a new variety, Vibel, which were rubbish and dug them up sharpish.
Chard - I'm a convert, have been eating it for a while in curries, lasagne, soups and many other things, makes a great frittata with Emmental.
Spring Onions - great crop nice taste, White Lisbon.
Runner Beans - plenty, just plenty.
Raspberries - early croppers were fantastic and the late croppers just coming on.
Blueberries - just starting to eat them.
Salad leaves - really got the hang of proper harvesting of the cut and come stuff so they go on for ages.
Cut and come 'romaine' - first time trying these and have been generally excellent, though the coming bit is a bit on the slow side.
It's been a great year for herbs too.
Great disappointments so far have been the French Beans and all my squash were eaten (two lots of sowings) by the usual barstewards. Strawberries were a bit poor and too labour intensive for the feeble results, think I'll just leave the growing up to others in future ...

Be interested to hear of how others have made out, though from the pix above speak for themselves, got the green-eyed monster going in me.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back into the garden......... My Climbing French Beans have started flowering again, I'd given up on them having frozen a fair few kilos over the last few weeks, just leaving the last few for seed saving? Oh well, dry off the "saved" seed pods in the greenhouse and anything else will be a bonus :):)

I bought some Pepper Antohi Romanian from the vegetable market early in the year, liked their sweet taste very much. Though I wasn't sure if the seeds from the fruits would be true to their parents, I sowed 1 seed each from the red and the orange one, just to try it out. It turns out that they are quite heavy croppers and the fruits are sweet:dbgrtmb:.

This year our aubergines are doing well. I have 2 plants each variety, and here are the fruits we've picked in the last 3 days. The little pin-stripe ones are growing outdoors.

The edible chrysanthemum are in flower now after providing us with lots of leaves for salad. The flowers are rather pretty, aren't they? I wonder if any of you would like to have some seeds? If not I shall pull the plants out as soon as they finish flowering.
