Loli , can I sow my sugar snaps and mangetout in modules in an unheated greenhouse now  First year for sugar snaps , I always thought it was just another name for mangetout.
About when should we be planting runner beans in modules ?

    TIA

    Morning Harry,
Yes they'll be fine:dbgrtmb: i've not grown Sugar Snaps before but i understand they can be eaten as Mangetout when they are young ...before they swell...or left to grow too:blue thumb:
I sow my Runners around the middle of April.....

I agree with Loli, I'll be sowing my main batch of runner beans in a fortnight. All peas are much hardier and can be sown now, I sow my early ones in trays, they could be sown direct but pesky mice like eating the seed. I've bought a new (to me) mangetout variety this year, called 'Shiraz', the pods are purple so it will be easier to distinguish them from normal peas later in the season when all my plants become a jumble.

        Sowed all my tomatoes yesterday:

Tomato Marmande x 120 (stated packet contents, but there was more)
Millefleur Yellow Vine Tomato (Centiflor Type) x 20
        Tomato Faworyt (Beefsteak) x 30
Tomato Ailsa Craig x 75 (stated packet contents, but again there were more)
Tomato Maskotka x 60 (and another with more than the stated packet contents - I reckon there was at least 100 of these!)
Pepper Carribean Hot Mix x 30

Mrs C has just checked on the chillies as she went up stairs - 14 seedlings now, some are the lemon chillies that I got from Real Seed Catalogue as an experiment, and the rest are the same ones that I grew last year.

My leeks (Musselburgh) have finally showed their heads and they are at the crook stage

Also sowed tons of marigolds (decoration and companion planting) as well as a few other flowering plants.

I am now debating if its time to sow my cucumbers (Telegraph Improved) and courgetted (Patio Star) - and still wondering about my peas and beans?

Labour of love I reckon, as you need a lot of plants (relative to the number of mouthfuls you want :) )

Got a length of guttering lying around? You can sow that as you would outdoors (double or triple row), suspend it from the rafters where the mice can't get it, and then "slide" the whole thing into a shallow trench when you want to "plant out".

I don't grow many of any veg Kristen ,my veg area is just a little space behind my shed . It would also take a lot of mangetout to fill my big mouth !

I dug my old root trainers out yesterday and have planted the Sugar Snaps , Mangetout and also some onion sets . They are now in the greenhouse :blue thumb:

I moved the cabbage plants (Hispi) which have been in the greenhouse and really starting to grow, outside under the cloches, which have been in place for a couple of weeks to warm the soil up a bit. I'll probably plant them in a week or so. I noticed that the Rhubarb is sparking into life:)

Probably not worth making a thread about so I thought I'd ask in this thread:

Ready to sow? (They will have been chitting for six weeks this weekend coming)

They look fine, but I expect your soil is too cold to plant into, so keep them in decent light, and frost free, and plant when the soil warms up.

nFrost, I agree with Kristen, your spuds look good but I expect your soil is too cold. Maybe in a weeks time when the weather is supposed to pick up.

Your Rhubarb has taken some frost damage by the looks of it.

                  Did a bit today.

Planted my Cabbages that have been outside under a cloche. I'll keep the cloche in place for a week or so, should be fine after that. Sowed some more cabbages in the greenhouse, Caramba (pointed). Dug through my bean bed and put up the sticks. Sowed some Leeks as not many came up from my original sowing. A bit late, but TBH, although I like Leeks, I never seem to do well with them, so they are usually an afterthought. It was looking likely that I might be a bit short with Onions, so I sowed some more, Hytech, into modules. Again, a bit late, but hopefully they'll catch up. A while back, I sowed some Long Red Florence (onions), kindly donated to me by Vince. Well, after they came up I managed to tip the lot up! So, I re-sowed a couple of weeks ago and they are now up :) I potted on my Chilli plants (Jalapino), which are now showing good growth. I notice that my Sweet Peppers (Big Banana) are also now making some progress, at last. I put out another cloche to warm the soil up a bit in preparation for planting out my Shallots, which I'll do next weekend.

Onwards and upwards from now on, hopefully:SUNsmile:
