Hi all, sorry I'm late but life chucked me an onion curve ball, my son has Cystic Fibrosis and has been infected by a microbe called Cepacia, he's in hozy at the mo for IV's to try and erradicate it, most antibiotics wont touch it tho, on looking into how/where he could have picked the bug up it seems the microbe is all over, but found in onion white root rot, it also fixs nitrogen on the roots of other plants.

So I've held fire, I wont risk planting anything in doors, I'll be up hozy with him until next weekend, then I think I'll seed the lovely Loli's seeds at my mates house, I know he'll be up for that, so I'm hoping to join the contest still, just a little late.

hope you all have a good crimbo, PP.

Dreaded Onion white rot again! I hope your son recovers swiftly PP.

Knocks the wind out of my sails, but just going to mention that my Bedfordshire Champions are starting to make an appearance, 50 Kelsaes germinated (counted them), more to come I hope. I need to get up the allotment to prepare more onion bed but with my sisters funeral arrangements to cope with and a waterlogged allotment plot, that's a no at the moment, who said gardening or life was easy? :cry3:

Once again Vince, just want to say that I'm sorry to hear of your loss, I'm guessing she was quite young?

Plant Potty, I dunno what to say really, other than I hope your boy recovers from what sounds like a nasty bug.

It's by no means too late to be sowing, indeed sowing later causes a lot less problems with respect to lighting and heating:blue thumb:

Too young Freddy, 58, my elder sister, I'm 56.

Our mum "seems" to be dealing with it better than me and my little sis, that's got me very worried! :(

A quick question. I've moved my seedlings into the greenhouse and under the growlights, they are set to come on for 12 hours, does that sound right?

Four days after sowing, germination has started already...will grab a few photoies over the next few days.

          Steve...:)

I might of cooked my seedlings today

Having checked immediately on coming home from work I found the temp had soared to 50 deg C. They are in a heated propogator (not thermostatically controlled) with T5 grow lights within a mini-greenhouse within my glass greenhouse. All were zipped up and vents shut.

The seedlings don't look scorched, time will tell if I've done them in. Looks like I need to open and shut vents and throw over bubble wrap during the night.

I don't like relying on my memory loli, sooner or later I'm going to forget to cover in bubble wrap and sods law it will be frosty.

Big temperature swings, can be a real pain in the 'tree'
