Wise move Loli, it was very cold with us last night, in my heated prop inside the greenhouse it got down to -3 deg C! That's the coldest I've recorded since setting it up in early Jan. I have it covered with fleece and bubble wrap too. There are seed potatoes chitting in the prop along with some early runner bean plants and they all look to have had it

Luckily my onions are back indoors in our spare room.

Pretty much stalled Freddy - I had to move them out to the porch to make room for other stuff to germinate, and then the temperatures dropped. Had a wee peek at them earlier, and it looks like some of them now have two of the long leaves, so they are presumably still growing albeit slowly.

      Hiya fat controller:)

I seem to recall you have a blowaway? How about putting the onions out there during the day, bringing them in at night?

Got rid of the blowaway last year Freddy, when all the zips failed, and went for a greenhouse instead - I could put them out in the greenhouse, but there would be little benefit as I cannot afford to heat the greenhouse this year, and they are getting as much light in the porch as they would in the greenhouse at the moment.

I live in hope that the temperatures are going to start going up soon.

      Hiya fat controller.

It looks like the temps will be on the rise next week (:hapydancsmil: ) so hopefully 'things' will get going, at last. I would imagine your onions will kick into life at that point:blue thumb:

My Onions have been fending for themselves for weeks now, no heat, no artificial light and not much growth either, that'll all change when we eventually get a spring!

What idiot started this Onion Growing Challenge? hehehehe

Got my onion bed prepared today, dug it over and added some used compost and chicken pellets. I've covered it in black plastic to warm up the soil, it was 2 deg C about 6" down.
