Hi there Scrunge, sorry to hear of the problems with the Onions.
I don't mean to be picky.....5. For 'bought in' plants, instead of a photo of the 'crook' stage, a photo as delivered.

Any chance of a pic please? I'm not sure if anyone else is growing from sets, so you might have a 'walkover':blue thumb:

Hiya Scrunge, thanks for that:blue thumb: I notice that although some of the Onions have yellow tips, they look like good strong plants. I'll be interested to see how they turn out:)

Yes, at least it will/should give an indication of the potential for relatively inexpensive bought plants (some can cost a few quid each!), but I reckon they're at least 2 months behind what could be produced at home with lights & heat.

          Hiya Scrunge:)

That's a good deal, imo. Given the amount of money I've spent on mine (heating/lighting), and then trying to keep them upright, buying in looks a lot easier. Today I noticed that mine are looking a bit....floppy:mad: I certainly won't be going down this route again.

My sets are Hercules, Sturon, Setton & Red Baron. Composted chicken poo normally gets them to a decent size, but everything's behind this year.

I planted mine out on Friday, lashed up some plastic sheets to give them a little protection. Also the three strongest are in a cloche:

Anything could happen yet Zigs, the foxes haven't found them yet, for some reason they love rolling on them.

No, mine are seriously smaller than Chives at the moment and I've got a cat that will roll on anything.

Mine are also like chives Zigs - you are not alone.

I swapped out the old compost from one of the deep growbags, and replaced it with top soil today ready to plant my onions out into - will leave it until tomorrow at the earliest before planting on as the soil is soaking wet.

I take it that the seedlings get planted to the same depth once transferred?

Not convinced I am going to get anywhere with these or the leeks at all.
