Yes that's the problem i had John so now mine are left to their own devices unless there's a chance of a severe frost but by looking ahead at the forecasts for this area the lowest overnight temperature is 7/8 ...so hoping the worst is over now:dbgrtmb:

Looking at them in the daylight this morning I can see the fleece has snapped a few leaves - no long term harm but it's taught me a lesson. I've done even more harm to my runner beans, the heavy wet fleece has snapped off a few of the leaders. We didn't even get a frost here in the end - useless weather forecasts :(

Not a happy man this morning! I've just got back in after re-planting half my onion bed. Weather not to blame, more like a four legged, long tailed feline (plenty of evidence, poo and footprints)

Just glad I had some back up plants.

I would camp out in the greenhouse with Shadow but she'd do more damage in pursuit of the culprit so I've reinstated the debris netting, it cuts down the amount of light but rather that than another episode like last nights. :cry3:

      Sympathies Vince,

It was 2 Rams on my plot, the string seems to be keeping them out though.

It's not so easy trying to grow big Onions eh? Seems like there's always something conspiring against us:doh:It's weird this gardening lark. Sometimes one can just bung something in, forget about it, and hey presto...result!

They do look good Loli, not many floppy leaves compared to mine.

Bought in plants are sulking in their pots, but those from sets have overtaken them. They have even overtaken my Autumn planted onions that kept getting their tops eaten off by mice over Winter/Spring, and I'm thinking of pulling them as spring onions and putting some pots in their bed.

Mrs C planted mine out into their gro-bag today, but I doubt very much that I am going to get any biggies; in fact, I think this year will be a one off, as space is a problem and the cost versus the few onions I am likely to get (at best) is silly to be honest.

I have a dose of onion seedlings left over, so will give them to someone at work who has some free space and might be able to at least get them to eating point.
