Blimey Zigs, you weren't kidding were you when you said they were like spring onions:heehee: Ah well, there's always next year eh? Btw, how did you manage to break your foot, with an Onion?

Freddy, as you know, I grow (sometimes) giant onions. I don't grow to break records, you know how expensive that would be? I grow because my Uncle did and I want to keep up the family tradition and there's no comparison in flavour between a home grown "Kelsae" and a shop bought "brown onion".

So glad your Long Red Florence are doing well, you wont be disappointed, taste second to none :

      Hiya @Vince

As I said earlier, my Dad was into growing large Onions, so I do have an affinity towards trying my hand:) It's actually been a lot of fun having a go at this, and I've learned quite a bit. My LRF won't break any records, but they do look rather yummy;)

They are Freddy, probably the best tasting onions, if you like sweetish ones?

So maybe you're a LRF convert?

I'll send you a few Kelsae seed to sow and plant in the corner Freddy, no tampering and you just might be surprised how little "help" they need?

      Them'll still taste good

Had one growing in a girt clay pot, picked it up to move early in the morning, still wet with dew.

Slipped out of my hands, breaking the pot and my foot. Miraflores came to the rescue with some ibuprofen gell :dbgrtmb:

I wonder what's making them go like that Freddy?

      Hiya John.

I don't have a clue. I don't mind losing one or two, as long as there's no underlying problem that threatens the rest. Maybe all this relatively lavish attention they've received has made them less hardy?:dunno:

Possibly Freddy, next year I will grow Kelsea again but they will not get so much TLC :blue thumb:

          Hiya @Vince

          Sorry, only just saw this.....

No worries about the seed, there's a stockist not that far from me:blue thumb: I normally grow a few different varieties, so Kelsae are on the list:) Next year I'll probably sow around mid-march, so they'll only need some heat at the start.

          Cheers...Freddy

          Hello chums:)

Well, just been down the garden, and it looks like my biggest one has had it. It's soft and discoloured on one side. I had high hopes for this one:sad: Ah well, that's gardening I suppose...

I daren't try poking mine, some look a bit lopsided - I wonder if that's a sign all is not right.
