I would leave the biggest still Loli, if it looks like it's still growing - nothing to be lost. The way I'm looking at it is to start eating a few of them now, the couple that bolted and a few runts I'm having first then any that look a little soft, hopefully the majority will harden up and can be stored for the winter. If your biggest one doesn't have time to ripen then no harm in eating it straight away.

It was stored in the fridge overnight and the texture and taste have improved! It's nice and crunchy now with quite a bite :) It's still going to last us a week :dbgrtmb:

Predictably, mine are all quite pathetic in comparison to previous years but given all the grief I've had this year, I'm not complaining, all but two are now curing in the greenhouse, toasted cheese and onion sarnies will have to wait a while longer.............

................. I'll get a 6lb er next year if it kills me LOL

That's the spirit @Vince :blue thumb:

As my leaves are looking quite useless now, I decided to fold them over. I detect that the bulbs are hardening :)

I've pulled all but my 'big' one up...he's still trying to do his best poor lad...

Tried one deep fried in Yorkshire Beer batter for tea....must say very sweet even in it's raw state...nice but maybe a bit too sweet....
Oh and i couldn't resist while i had the batter on the go and seen as there was a big Zac tom stareing at me i dunked him in it aswell....THEN i spotted an Aji Crystal chilli ...why not:whistle:....
I've never deep fried a whole chilli before....Aji Crystal IMO is of moderate heat but dunk it in some beer batter and deep fry:yahoo:...verrrry nice:dbgrtmb:

looks really good Loli, cant wait till I can eat fried food again.

Will there be an onion growing competition next year? If so I'm going to give it a try.

                      Hiya Loli:)

I gotta say, that looks delish!
I won't be trying to grow monsters next year, too much stress!

Allan, the biggest onions come from seed:blue thumb:

ok I think ill get myself some seeds too (I already have some sets on order), have a go at both. And see what I prefer. I would imagine sets would be easier to do though.

                        Hiya Allan.

Yes, very much so. Just push them in, and that's pretty much it. However, in the past I've been generally disappointed with them. They have a tendency to bolt (although heat treated ones are supposed to be resistant to this), and can be quite small, imo. I won't use sets again...
