MY Alicante, Shirley, Jaune Flamme, Rosada tom seeds have all germinated well, but I've struggled to get the Black Seaman tom seeds to germinate, only getting 4 out of 12 seeds to show.:dunno::snork:

          Hiya folks.

As with my Onions, all my Tomatoes were flopped down. I've just watered them and they seem to be picking up. I'm hopeful that no permanent damage has been done?

Despite the frost Saturday morning, greenhouse Toms are fine - so Ive potted on the second Quadgrow & the first of the chilligrows ; its starting to look like spring !

              --
Second Quadgrow has BigBoy #2, SuperSteak, Tamina & a wildcard plant, the seeds for which my Bother brought back from his hols & is known only as "Italian Eater".

Alicante has responded to my award of "best looking plant of 2013" by producing a few flowers...

I still need to find homes for the dozen or so other plants - Bush type can go outside once the frosts finally go (May ?), not sure what to do with the others, I expect I will find space.

In the Chilligrow (against the wall) I have 2x Long Cayenne & Early JalapeƱo which were the most advanced plants - the more exotic chillies are just reaching the stage to be moved out to the greenhouse so if I can clear the ugly black shelves & banish them to the Garage this weekend there should be space for them.

Spruce, has the growing tip emerged? If so I would not worry, but if it is also stuck inside the case too you can try spraying them gently with water, that might help soften up the case. In the worst case I've resorted to teasing the case off by hand but that runs the risk of damaging the tip (it doesn't matter too much about damaging the seed leaves)

Good Grief Penny, sure that is enough? I am merely growing three plants this year. More than enough for Steve and I. I have Gardeners Delight, Money Maker and Tumbler. That'll do me. Not competing.

                        Hi,

Could someone please give me a quick bit of advice - I was about to pot on the plants in this pic (Red Alert and Golden Sunrise) as I thought they were getting a bit leggy but then I saw this and now I'm not so sure - http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/grapevine/new-shoots/potting-tomatoes_63970.html

I planted the seeds in a tray in early March and potted them on into these 3" pots about 3 weeks ago I think. They're behind glass at the mo' and getting around 10hrs of lovely sunshine a day in my office but eventually will be going outside in my garden.
So should I pot them on yet or wait (if so for how long?). And if and when I do pot them on should I be removing the bottom leaves (I thought these were important to keep for photosynthesis reasons but maybe not?) and planting them to just below the top leaves to encourage root growth, or not quite as deep as this?

Cheers, only my second season growing toms so all help much appreciated Photo0721.jpg

I've gone for Gardeners Delight, Golden Sunrise and Red Alert this year but got them in a bit late - my most mature plants are in the pic above and my most recently planted are still only a couple of inches high and with their first set of leaves. Bit worried (esp as most'll have to grow outdoors) that I'm too far behind and they won't come to anything before the summer ends :(

                          Hi Andy,

I pot them as deep as the first set of true leaves, burying the seed leaves.Mine are about the same stage as yours & I potted mine up yesterday.
