2013 Tomato Growing

Golden Pearl..... a cherry tomato, not the strongest of flavours but very sweet.



Tamina.......absolutely loaded with largish fruit, yet to be tasted.



Red Zebra......I tasted the first one yesterday but will see how the flavour develops on later fruit. As yet, not very sweet with an 'earthy' fresh flavour. I like it.

Smashing Sheal,i see you've a few ripe ones.......I've the odd Alicante ripening and a good few Tumblers but the rest just seem to want to keep growing...

 

Jenny......as tomatoes go Red Zebra is quite pretty.

Loli......my cherry tomatoes are now all well underway, but the normal toms are still taking their time to ripen. Red Zebra are the first to ripen and there's only a few of those at the moment. You are a bit further north than me, so may be yours will follow suit in a week or so.

 

Early Goliaths, none ripening yet though.

 

They're looking healthy though Zigs. Is that a bean plant I see lurking on the left there? I have twelve tomato plants this year and every one has leaf curl, it's got to be the weather!

 

It is a bean, Painted Lady, grown more for the flowers than the beans, not over keen on runners.

At the other end are Penny's winky Chillies, overwintered from last year.



They're starting to get excited

 

First time growing 'Stonor Exhibition tomato'.....said to have an "Old fashioned tomato taste"....i'm curious about this one

 

They look to be in the best of health Loli.

They are Jenny but not many of them....had the same trouble with all the varieties i've grown this year....alot of dry sets...

Hiya folks.

I've been away for a week, so as expected things have moved on. A couple of plants have flopped under the weight of fruits and general growth. Even though I 'stopped' them some time ago, it's amazing how the plants still seem to 'stretch' Anyway, a couple of pics....





Trusses this year seem exceptional, compared with what I'm used to, this being my fifth year 'proper' growing toms. I'll post some pics shortly of the fruits themselves

Hi Freddy, that's a good crop you've got there, mine are doing very well in the greenhouse, but hopeless outside.

A funny thing, my outdoor ones look like being the best I've ever achieved. Early days yet, but I've already had a few ripe fruits and the plants look healthy. Mine usually struggle along, then get hit by blight


Speaking of which, has anyone yet applied Bordeaux Mixture?
