Literally hundreds of small tomatoes per truss - they certainly live up to their centiflor name. I was late getting mine started, so they are only just ripening now and there are some fruits still forming, however I am hopeful that they will ripen as they are so small.

I am not a fan of cherry tomatoes at all, but these and the maskotka have definitely changed my mind.

The offer stands if you want to give them a shot.

John.....I grew Sungold last year because I'd bought the seeds by mistake and to be honest I wasn't impressed even though quite a few members like it, so for me there is no comparison to Golden Pearl. :)

FC......are Millefleur cherry tomatoes? I'm looking for a normal sized salad tomato. Thanks for the offer of seeds though. :)

I won't be going completely 'yellow' next year, there's still nothing like a good red tomato. I'm due to see my Rheumatologist next month and it will be interesting to put the question of tomatoes/arthritis to him.

John.....I've just checked out my Golden Pearl packet and it seems they are F1's so no point in me collecting seed for you, sorry.

@Sheal - yes, they are small, golden yellow, sweet little bombs of flavour; smaller than a 10p piece. The maskotka are a bit larger, although I'd still class them as a cherry tomato, and they are just cracking wee things - fantastic flavour, and very generous (if scruffy) wee plants. My Ailsa Craig have been pretty good as well this year, and they are a salad size tomato - the flavour isn't all that amazing (still way better than the supermarket offerings of course).

The two clear winners for me this year have to be the maskotka and the marmande, and both are definitely on my list for next year, as are the millefleur simply because they are juicy, tasty and a departure from the bog standard tomatoes. The Faworyt (beefsteak) were tasty, but more hassle than they were worth, so they are out, and the Ailsa's aren't likely to have a showing next year either. I am still trying to work out what my 'salad' tomato is likely to be next year, but 'Rose de Berne' is currently on the spreadsheet......

The only other one I fancy trying (other than the Bulgarian giant that Jenny very kindly sent me), is either Costoluto Genovese or Purple Ukraine (maybe both, because I am beyond help).

I am also intrigued by the effects of tomatoes on arthritis - still not sure if I have arthritis or something else, but it might explain why my symptoms seem to have worsened since the start of the summer. I'll mention it to my GP, but doubt that I will get a meaningful answer.

You've certainly grown an assortment this year FC and many that you've grown I don't recognise. :) I don't like the big tomatoes I find they can be a bit pappy but I'm on the look out now for a yellow salad tom or two. The Golden Sunrise that John suggested I might well try.

The weather has a great deal of affect on arthritis FC and I know from the way I'm feeling this evening that rain is around. I keep an eye on my barometer, when the pressure starts to drop I know that I'm going to follow suit, if you get what I mean. :) There are quite a number of different forms of arthritis so it's well worth you having a word with your GP. If you want a more in depth chat about it you're more than welcome to shout me on PM. :)

Thanks @Sheal - I know one thing for sure, I am going to have to start pressing the GP for some answers. Part of me started to think that it could be neurological, but that wouldn't explain the regular cracking of the joints and the pain that is clearly in the bones of my hands and feet. Still, that is a whole different thread :)

FC, you must push to get your answers! My GP was very good but it was getting our hospital to sit up and take notice that was the problem.

I caught one of these yesterday in the greenhouse munching on the leaves. I'm guessing there's more than one doing the damage though.

I'm pretty sure the doctors will say that the eating of tomatoes is not relevant to arthritis (no proper research has been done on it) but there is an amount of empirical evidence that there is some sort of link between tomatoes and the arthritis being aggravated by them.

Although I mentioned the acid in them, that is only the term that people find easier to use but there seems to be some link between the different amounts of 'acid' in them. Other thoughts are to do with the amount of salicylates or solanine in them.

I don't think sufferers really care what the cause of the aggravation is as long as it can be relieved a bit.

May not suit everyone, but I took Chondroitin (and something, forgotten the name) at cast expense for a couple of years ... made no difference. For the last 5 years I've been wearing a copper bangle and have almost no trouble at all. My Arthritis is in my finger joints.

A great thread and I'm learning a lot. I'll chip in a bit with my observations so far, but should warn you that I am experimenting a bit with the position of my tomato beds so growing conditions not totally ideal. Only growing a few varieties this year as will be away for a month when they should be at their peak :frown: Had lots of heritage and other varieties on the go last year but all toms got the dreaded blight, so have been a bit too cautious this year I think. Anyway, all outdoor plants ...

Sun Baby - very sturdy plants, good crop and early to ripen, very tasty. Usually very reliable and early here.
Marmande - plants not as sturdy as others but crop looks very good, not ripening yet.
Ailsa Craig - Very sturdy plants, excellent crop and first ones should be edible within a day or two.
Alicante - Crop looks good, none even on the turn yet, plants look less sturdy than other years I think.

I've got some other varities on the go but OH had a rare aberration of 'kindness' and decided one day to hoe my veg beds for me, at the same time digging up the name tags and leaving them randomly scattered hither and tither all over the beds :mute:.

                          Cheers
                          GG

Just harvested more (sorry, can't do pics as I have no phone - see the 'Aaaargh thread'); FOUR carrier bags full of tomatoes of varying types, some of which are a tad over-ripe (softish) and others that have splitting skins - they will all go for cooking into soups/sauces etc, while the rest are likely to head to work with me tomorrow and get donated to the canteen.
