2014 The GC Pumpkin growing and carving challenge

    I have no idea if this is true or not, but I would think the paton seeds would be difficult to grow for most, due to how they grow their pumpkins, so my thinking is they have whilst growing these big pumpkins, grown something into the genetics of their giant pumpkin seeds.

    They start their year by steam cleaning their beds which are of course all under cover in a massive twin span commercial greenhouse.

    Weekly soil and leaf tests are done throughout the season and feed adjusted accordingly, and from what I have seen no expense is spared in that department, with many varied feeds and treatments being used.

    I have no problem with that at all, that's what they wish to do and they get great results and I wish them continued success with that.

    But would this extreme attention to every need and detail leave the average gardener at a disadvantage when trying to grow the resultant seed or am I way off the mark here?

    That's a good analysis Steve, those Paton Twins may need much more mollycoddling than us ordinary growers can provide.

              I bought two patons seed last year and grow them this year both was very weak plants and ended up throwing them away

                This years carving the eyes did not turn out as good as I hoped also I only had about a handful of seed and most are spilt :-(
