Like many others my Tomatoes are still pretty small and no they are not the mini varieties but might as well be. I am busy stringing them in the greenhouse atm along with some cucumber plants. It has been years since I had a green house and can't remember, am I best to plant the cucumbers together and ditto the Tomatoes? or alternate the plants? or doesn't it matter?. It probably doesn't matter but with the backward nature of mine anything to help them along would be good!

Best to separate the toms and cucs silu. Cucumbers like it more humid whilst toms like it drier. So plant your toms on the sunnier side. If you can, partition off a section for the cucs with a plastic sheet then you can keep that a bit more humid.

I put my Cucumbers on the back wall, and don't open the vent nearest to them, which I think increases the humidity. I also put a gravel tray down near the Cues, and top that up with water, for extra humidity. A plastic "curtain" separator would probably be better still - but might look a bit naff!

Thanks JWK and Kristen, off to try and find a large sheet of polythene. Know I have 1 somewhere as had large number of shavings bales delivered which were wrapped in same and it was such a huge good quality piece I saved it. What the he.. if I get good cucumbers I'll be quite happy to have my greenhouse looking naff! On the same subject do you then water/feed your cucumbers more often than the Toms? From what I remember I think I pretty much treated them both the same in the past. Certainly 1 year I could have stocked every branch of Tescos in the UK with Cucumbers but not so sure my Tomatoes were that good. There is only so many Cucumbers you can eat and that year, eventually, my family went on strike from eating them, what's wrong with adding few slices to the breakfast cereal? seemed quite a good idea to me.....other members of my family disagreed!:)

Yes, I treat them both the same as regards watering and feeding. Just try and keep the cucs a bit more humid. I have two small greenhouses so it's a bit easier for me, the cucumber greenhouse is quite shaded by trees so I don't have to ventilate it that much, helps trap the moisture.

One more tip for cucumbers (assuming you are growing all female F1 varieties) is to remove the very first flush of young fruit, if you leave them on the plants tend to 'stall' for a few weeks before getting fruiting again.

          :)

I've never had cucs for brekkie silu :) I grow the mini cucino type, it's lunchbox sized, no need to peel or slice :blue thumb:

... and another tip with cucumbers, I just remembered, when planting heap up the compost and plant on the top of the mound. Conversely cucumber plants, even though they like humidity, they don't like getting the stem wet, so avoid watering the plant - I insert an upside-down old lemonade bottle cut at the bottom so I can water in there rather than splashing it all over.

Here's a photo of my tomatoes just planted them in their final containers, in a few days I'll position them on the black tray under the bench. Each container has a wick which fits through the holes on the reservoir thingy under the bench so they automatically draw up enough water/feed, they will look after themselves when I go on holiday:

Don't forget cream of cucumber soup. It's lovely, chilled, on hot days.

Here are my tomatoes so far. Just noticed that they have flowers starting to appear which is quite exciting

they are quite chunky plants which I wasn't expecting but then they are the striped stuffer tomato plants so not the smallest tomatoes

A lot more so than mine! Any chance they have had "too much" fertiliser?
