I haven't had a single ripe tigrella yet :( But according to Monty Don, it's been a good year for tomatoes!

Dunno what to say folks must be luck
The Manx marvel you gave me @JWK have just started turning red, had the first couple this evening :)

Been picking bowls like this every 4 or 5 day for the last 3 weeks

(Sorry for the poor quality on iPad camera)

I had a few ripe Manx Marvels (at least I believe they were, quite tart?), a decent number of Maskotka, and that was about it. Not one ripe Marmande - this time last year, I was over-run with the things.

In fact, this time last year I was giving bag after bag of tomatoes away! Really bad year this year - not impressed.

I have decided I am not doing millefleur again - first to start, last to ripen every year I have tried them - sweet tasting wee things, but they have a pretty awful smell to them, and the skins are so fragile you end up splitting most of them just getting them off the plants.

Back to the drawing board for next year methinks

@Jenny namaste That seems a good chutney recipe :blue thumb: Do you make the Sambhar or just use your Panch Phoran? There's not a great deal of difference apart from the dal.

Great! Mine have just started to ripen too, they are very late but they are the solitary variety I'm growing outdoors. There are lots of fruit on them, haven't tried tasting them yet

This warm weather has perked them up again and they have put on a growth spurt, even though I'd nipped out the tops they have produced big side shoots and flowers. I'm leaving them to see what happens.

I use my Pancha and most , but not all, of the things in the recipe - but no where near that amount of dried chilli! I don't have curry leaves for example. It takes hours to reduce down - that's the only thing, so you have to keep stirring to stop it sticking. Only got 5 x 12oz jars out of it last night. I've put a wax discs on them and a cover of cling film before screwing on the lids,

Well, I had a nice surprise when I checked the greenhouse. My 'Sungold' have started to ripen! I had serious doubts that I would get anything at all, but this latest warm spell really seems to have made all the difference. Obviously, it remains to be seen how well they'll crop overall, just have to wait and see, but I'm well chuffed considering they were sown on June 1st.

              Cheers...Freddy

Well done Freddy, shows how adaptable the tomato plant is. Good choice with Sungold, it's been my earliest and tastiest this year.

I have more botrytis  on my superhigh yielding Roma and another plant. As I'm moving out next week from my parents and it's late-ish in the year, I think they'll stay in the ground as long as possible and the rest can take their chance.

Pretty average, year for me although much better than 2013. Won;t be growing Mrs Maxwells again as for a beefsteak variety they're tiny.
I've changed my mind about the Malinowy Henryka variety by the way - think they needed longer in the season for some reason.

My Manx Marvel is doing quite well. I've already had three or four tomatoes off this plant, with a few more to come yet. :)
