          I'm attempting to grow big daddy beef tomatoes, I haven't got a greenhouse, but my garden is south facing so I'm hoping they will do well. Is there any difference growing beef tomatoes rather than regular toms?

            Grow them the same, you may need to support the fruit with nets if they get really big :fingers crossed:

              Or use an old bootlace, piece of baler twine, length of paracord, etc,. wrapped around the stem of the truss and tied above to the plant's support.

              They can take longer to crop.

                ...also you tend to cry if your darling tomato plant has invested all it's energy in a big tomato and something goes wrong!

                  LOL! I totally get that! Last year I had a lovely big juicy tomato and when I finally picked it there was a tiny slug hidden at the back happily chomping it's way through! I was properly upset!

                    Here's an extract from the Amateur Gardening Magazine about a new Tomato plant.

                    "Mail Order seed and plant specialist Thompson and Morgan is exclusively launching a "fully blight resistant" salad Tomato.
                    Tomato "Mountain Magic F1" is a cordon trained variety that can be grown in veg patches or on allotments. Outdoor Tomato's have become tricky to grow in recent years due to the curse of Blight which has swept across the UK.
                    But T&M said "not only does it have good resistance to early blight, it carries late blight busting genes, giving it protection against all current British strains including Pink6 and Blue13, the most virulent to hit crops.
                    "It also has in-built genetic resistance to verticillium and fusarium wilt, and skin cracking" the firm said.
                    T&M claims that gardeners will be "hard pushed to find better flavour from such a disease resistant tomato." Fruits are said to have high sugar levels and each weigh around 56g. They've been compared in flavour to heritage types such as "Brandywine"

                      That's the one I got with my £5 voucher that needed spending last week. I think it was £4 for 5 seeds. Will let you know how I get one, as I've sown them for this year.
                      I've done a stocktake of my seedlings, as I've managed to give a lot away. Still got lots of duplicates of 'new' varieties I'm not really interested in, and also missing numbers on my workhorses Roma and 'Divine', but down to 50 plants of 30 varieities.
                      The largest ones I've had to pot on again. Really they should be transplanted into their final spots, but my greenhouse is too exposed, my raised bed not built and it recently got down to 0C, so they still need to be indoors.
