Then when they die or produce no tomatoes it puts them off gardening for good.

As it's almost March I've sown a pinch of Red Alert seeds to try and get a couple of weeks ahead of the rest and they will go in big pots in a polytunnel in May.

My Red Robin mini bush toms being grown under lights indoors still haven't produced any flowers, they keep producing more and more buds but none of them are opening.

I'm hanging fire. I would normally sow around mid March (for greenhouse cultivation), but I might hang on for a further week or two.

My early sown mini-bush toms still haven't flowered, the Red Alerts are through.

I've made my first sowing of big toms, jut a few seeds of each variety, a bit early but if they thrive I'll be able to let the plants grow bigger before letting tomatoes grow which should increase their size, and it will also enable me to check viability of the seed in advance of last sowing dates.

Wow, that photo may convince me to get a lamp set-up. Those guys on the left are very sturdy compared with my windowsill chaps.

I've not seen that one before Spruce. I'm not keen on it, it looks quite mushy inside, sorry!

I wouldn't be too swayed by that. A couple of years ago I grew 'Cuore Di Bue', one of those odd-shaped Oxheart types. Very meaty looking, but absolutely no flavour. Just saying... :)

last week of March planting most of my seeds I don't have a heated greenhouse so I sow and grow at the optimum time , other wise you have the house full and they go lanky etc

My toms went in yesterday. A bit early for me but I was getting the planting shakes so had to do it. Terenzo, glacier,GD`s and maskotka. Propagator on window for me,then conservatory then outdoors.

I have 6 tumbling tom seedlings, all looking a bit leggy but first true leaves on the way so think they will be ok with a pinch out later on. West facing windowsill is pretty much full so hoping I can get them in my unheated greenhouse in a couple of weeks.
