I don't often grow tomotoes but last year I bought some seed of an interesting species tomato solanum cheesmanii a native of the Galapagos Islands, it has small yellow cherry like tomatoes which are meant to taste delicious it's also very hardy and salt tolerant so I thought I'd have a go at growing them in the ground on the allotment :)

Here they are from today, a bit leggy but they will soon grow out of it

I planted out my toms into the greenhouse border a few weeks ago. Looking a bit spindly, as light is an issue because of the tall hedge to the west, which is only 3ft from the greenhouse. The toms destined for outside were planted outside a few days ago as they were becoming too big to be left in the greenhouse. Not ideal, but night temperatures have been pretty good here, so I thought it was worth taking the chance. In the greenhouse I have 5x Sungold and 4x Ananas. Outside I have 3x Trailing Cherry and 3x Gartenperle. I still have some Tumbling Tiger to plant out, but they are languishing a bit, so still a bit small.

Good to see you back Freddy!

If I had time I would have got my outdoor toms planted by now I'd put a few plastic panels around them to give a bit of protection from the cold winds we have had recently.

All things considered, I'm pretty chuffed I have tomatoes appearing already!

          Thanks John
As you know, it's a bit of a gamble, but things look set fair here. If I have to, I'll put some polythene or something over them, but I'm now committed :fingers crossed:

Picked my first ripe tomatoes today, Sungold. This is the earliest I've ever had them, usually for me it's late June before they start ripening.

Crikey, that's early! Mine are only just at the flower stage. Sungold are such a good variety, early to ripen and superb flavour. What more could one want! :)

I'm hoping they taste good too, I'll have them for lunch tomorrow.

I'm very jealous  Don't you just love the first 'proper' tomato? Nothing quite like it...

Planted my Manx Marvels out before Shineyland, didn't want to take the chance of leaving them in the greenhouse as I was off for nearly a week.

Bit of damage from the cold wind, but they're not dead by a long way :phew:

And the key ingredient to grow tomatoes - wine!

Taken a chance and sowed some Big Zacs today. They'll either grow or fail.
