Tomato sideshoot cuttings 33 days after removing from the mother plant, placed in water to root, then into 100mm square pots in light shade for several days, then moved into a polytunnel. They had masses of roots [1]when potted on from those 100mm pots. I've already been removing their own sideshoots. They have 2 flower trusses and are almost 400mm high..

I've now got enough plants of this variety to keep some in each of 2 polytunnels and a couple of different locations at home as a precaution against getting them all infected with blight and being unable to save seeds from them. Might bring some indoors under lights in about 6 weeks when there's more space after our daughter's gone back to uni until they ripen.

Also doing this with 2 other tomato varieties.

[1] Not that plant, but an example from another sideshoot cutting

It's a jungle in my main greenhouse, plants now meeting at the apex:

My little greenhouse with cucumbers is sparse by comparison:

Most of my polytunnel tomatoes have been very slow this year, both in plant growth, producing tomatoes and ripening of tomatoes.

Most beefsteak tomato plants only have a few fruits on and standard/cherry sized toms are stiĺl weeks away from ripening.

Red Alerts, normally a small bush providing a very early crop have grown massive (approx. 900mm long stems), but only a handfull of fruits have ripened.

Heaviest crop will come come from Gigantomos, but they probably wont be ripe until September.

I've got 15 buckets of toms in the Green House and, so far, they're doing okay. I've even had 4 toms to eat this week, two of Shirley variety and two of Jaune Flamme variety......very nice. I did have some trouble with leaf curl early on but once the feed balance sorted itself out everything settled down.:dunno:

I assume it's one of the Indigo series of blue/black tomatoes, that turn/blush a different colour when ripe.
