Thankyou - but they're taken on my phone. I only ever really use my phone & never had a problem uploading before.

      Here's my grafted plants:

Strange one of them has gone really leggy, I might pinch the top growth out to keep it stubby and encourage a sideshoot to take over as the main leader.

If they are big enough you can cut them off and root them, to get more free plants. Otherwise nip them out.

Do they need rooting powder @JWK or do you just 'bung them in?' :snork:

I by accident have bust side shoots of Tomato plants on several ocassions and just "bunged them in)! I've usually buried a good 3/4 of the shoots and it's worked. I didn't use rooting powder. I am not nearly as knowledgeable as JWK so if he replies something different to me I'd go with what he says:)

Thanks to Scrungee giving me the idiot's guide to saving Tomato seed, I sowed some of my saved Garden Pearl (not F1 so will grow true) few days ago in the heated propagator. Sowed 20 seeds and bingo 20 seedlings appeared. I have been in the process of potting them on as don't want them in the propagator for too long. I've discovered that 3 of the seedlings have 3 1st leaves rather than 2 and 1 seedling has 4 1st leaves? Is this quite common? Should I just treat then as normal or bin them? Have plenty more saved seed so not a big deal if the oddly numbered leafed seedlings are best discarded.

That's very unusual silu as far as I know, occasionally you see them but not as many as you've got.

I honestly don't know if it affects the plant or not, my guess is that it won't do any harm. Maybe you're onto a new variety - they may do really well if it gets extra true leaves too.

Thanks JWK,I'm glad you too think it unusual. I can't remember any seeds I've sown before which should have had the "normal" 2 1st leaves having more. I'll keep them going and see what happens. Funnily enough I thought that the extra leaves might be good too! I picked the best plant (had 10 to choose from, grown from bought seed) to save seed from. The Tomatoes on the best 1 were very slightly nicer but I don't think there was any other difference to the other plants. Time will tell if I have a new variety...unlikely!

I think I'll be joining you in this thread this year. My choices are:

                      Tigerella
                      Riesentraube
                      Alicante

Got any tips for these in particular? Thanks! ;)

Blimey you take your eyes off those seeds and they run away lol Have all germinated successfully, I think about 80-90%, quite chuffed at that

I'm growing Alicante this year for the first time, I've read it's a good yielder with good taste. I've grown Tigerella in the past with good results but never even heard of Riesentraube - so sorry no tips from me.
