Hi all

Weve always grown Moneymaker as our main crop until last year when we changed to Alisa Craig , we changed over as the money maker had a hard woody core in the fruit
The yield on the alias Craig was poor last year - the mrs like to make chutneys etc but there wasn't enough for this last year

So I'm looking for a good cropper for main crop this year - from reading this thread I'm looking at Alicante - or any other sugestions for greenhouse growning

If anybody insists on making tomato wine, Riesentraube is supposed to be the best least worst variety to use. Wonder if this is when @Loofah gets interested in them? (Google riesentraube wine)

Yes I hope so too. I'm growing a few different heritage varieties of veg this year to compare to the modern F1 usual stuff we see everywhere.

Hello,

I need your advice, please.

I have never grown tomatoes from seeds before, and I have no idea what I am doing .

These are Tumbling Toms but as you can see they're really limb, and I don't know why? I keep watering them, have them stand in a bright spot, but they just don't pick up.

Do you have any advice for me? Thanks very much!

PS: They are about 3 weeks old.

 

They need to either be repotted so the leaves are just popping out of the compost or binned & start again.

They look like that through lack of light - they going leggy through searching for the light.

Have you a south facing windowsill they can live on once youve repotted or started again?

 

I have repottet them from the propagator into this hanging basket, and they are in the south facing kitchen. Maybe I have to move them over closer to the light. I will try this and if they don't pick up, then I start over.

Trust me, that won't work now. You need to take them out of the basket & bury them separately, deep in pots - maybe 7" or 9" .

I see about 20 plants in that basket - none of which will amount to anything much looking at the way they are now.

For an example of how big & how much room tomatoes need - the norm is 3 plants to a gro-bag or 1 - 2 to a bucket, when they are growing rapidly & live outside.
