2017 BUTTERFLY & MOTHS IMAGES

No idea what this is, but it was perched on top of an ox-eye daisy seed head in my wild flower patch this evening.

 

@Trunky A Skipper, possibly Small or Essex, the two are very similar.

 

Small Heath.


Still the occasional Brimstone about.


Six Spot Burnet Moths.

 

It has taken until now to see my first Gatekeeper and of all places it was in the garden this afternoon.

Very pretty in a subtle sort of way (feeding on marjoram)


At first I thought a strange Large White, but the pointed top wing, and it was this sort of soft greeny yellow on the top-side of the wings, but didn't manage to get a shot


Again, not a cabbage white, I don't think? (no cabbages around, anyway!)


because of the heat today, they all seem a little reluctant to open their wings


Is this a Gatekeeper? Lots of these on the marjoram at the moment, and I did see a mainly orange wing, when they opened

awful photo, I know, but you can see the colour and patterning of the wing, through the blur?


this little fellow was tiny - nearly trod on him!


no idea about this one, apart from one of the blues?!

 

Just had a bit of a shock. Pulled up a big willowherb weed and felt something move in my hand.

It turned out to be this little beauty, about two inches long.

Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar.
