Listened to some of it @longk , it goes on a bit, but I still struggle to understand how anyone can take religion so seriously.
Dont think I will ever understand that.

Interesting that teachers, social workers and police can now face legal action if they are seen to be at fault in managing cases of child abuse, but folk in positions of power that loose records or cover up abuse, escape the frame of culpability. Obviously all professions including medical who are involved with children should be on the alert for identifying child abuse. Indeed child protection training is paramount in all child associated professions. However if the powers that be, continue to stifle reports to cover up abuse in the higher echelons of society, introducing this law is futile and our children will never be truly safe.

Which, from a parents perspective, can be a potential nightmare of being judged guilty without so much as a hearing! Professionals could pounce on parents, not out of legitimate concern for welfare for children, but out of fear of this legislation and to cover their own backs against legal action. And I say that for all those (potential) parents who will face the consequences of being at the mercy of this legislation who may well be innocent of any actual abuse!
Now, while the concept is admirable ... I think it has been poorly thought out insofar as ... well, as I said above - there will be far more innocent parents who will become victim as a result of this legislation as opposed to genuine abuse cases being "discovered".
Genuine abusers are quite cautious (and clever, and manipulative) of who they pick, how they do it, where they do it, when they do it and how to have a counter excuse for any accusations. By definition they are difficult to identify, trace and bring to justice.
This can go so very wrong and in the wrong direction.

I think many people need religion, they need to feel that there is a greater force somewhere, that 'somebody' is looking out for them? shaping their fate? as in "it was meant to be" "it was God's will" it helps people through very difficult times in their lives, also of course people like to feel that there is an afterlife. This really deserves a thread of its own.

I have no problem with anyone following any religion, it is their choice.
It's when it is forced upon other people or used as a reason to attack non believers that I get concerned.

There has been some research (please do not ask me to source it, it was quite a while ago - as in years! - but I have remembered it :heehee: ) that some brains are more wired toward a "faith/religious belief" than others.
Guess that just puts you in the category of "other", @pete :heehee:  :dunno:

Absolutely!! Nobody should have it forced upon them.

Hmm, isn't that a contradiction in terms?
If someone is "forced" into religion then it cannot be a free choice, surely? :dunno:
And, if you exercise free choice, you cannot be "forced"?

I'm sorry "M" you lost me there.
Maybe its just the way I say things.

Perhaps I should have said, when religious maniacs try to force their religion on others.

If I'm in "other", then long may it be, saves me looking a bit silly when my time comes;)
