    Yeah, that's the ones and the other lot, Brigham young and his bunch. .
    Also people who try to get me involved in diwali, ramadan or even bloody dragon boat racing.

        Isn't it strange how "Christian" people often appear to have the most un-christian attitudes towards others?

        I rather admire the Muslims when they're observing the fast during Ramadan. More self discipline than I could ever muster. And if you like fresh dates the choice around Ramadan is fantastic :blue thumb:

          Although I understand what you're implying I think those are all poor examples. With all of those a polite 'No thanks!' is always accepted. So I don't object to any of them. (We went to a very nice Diwali party last year and were honoured to be invited :blue thumb: - food was great :)).

          All the above tend to be less insistent than your mates that are trying to get you down the pub :heehee:

          The real problem is with those that want to force you to accept their way of thinking.

          I don't object to any of them either - especially as I have siblings who are JW :) and friends who are Muslim :)
          My comments were meant to be light hearted ;)

            One of my good school friends came from an interesting family. :scratch: His father was from a family of rabbis and his mother was from a family of Seventh Day Adventists! My friend was a very confused person.

                Regarding Ramadan and Dwalli, I was really referring to the local TV approach.
                Each year, at the appropriate time, we get the ITV local news lecturing us about both events.

                It tends to take up a large amount of the news programme for the weeks concerned, informing us all about, what it's about, and how we should get involved.

                Might be bad examples, but its just another way, they are trying to force so called integration, but its us that are expected to integrate.

                Amended your quote to keep things in perspective: hoping you do not mind @longk but it is the only way I could possibly agree with your comment :redface:

                Crikey, what do they find to say about Ramadan? Pray, fast, pray, eat, pray fast and so on!
                Mind you, once the sun has set they eat well and when it is all over they feast! Including excellent dates :blue thumb:

                  I did say "often appear to have " as opposed to "appear to have" :)

                    Do you think? :scratch:
                    That's interesting!
                    So, I wonder how they feel about the marketeers' who churn out/promote products for:
                    Valentines Day;
                    Mother's Day;
                    Father's Day;
                    Pancake Day;
                    Easter;
                    Halloween;
                    Bonfire Night;
                    Christmas;
                    New Year?
                    Even birthdays are not a significant event in the Asian calendar (except for small children)!
                    On the question of 'balance'? :dunno:
                    We are asked to be tolerant of Ramadan and Diwali :heehee: ;)
                    I notice you do not include Chinese New Year in that? :noidea: And yet, our supermarkets are full of products for it! ;) (strangely food orientated, but, very few red packets :noidea: )

                      OK Chinese new year.

                      On the balance of your last post"M", I assume we are not Britain any more, but some blurred place where the whole world lives.
                      We once had our own identity, much in the same way other countries still do.

                      But are we wrong if we still want to maintain that identity.

                      Brit bashing is mainly an occupation of Brits, never will understand why.
                      Presumably goes back to the days of "fair play and all that chaps":biggrin:

                        "Wrong"? No, I don't believe so. Identity is important.
                        But, life does not stand still - plus, the question begs to be asked: what (precisely) is our "identity"?
                        Most, if not all, of our counties were invaded by the Romans (does that make us "British"?) :noidea:
                        Much of our fundamental ideas of etiquette/manners stem from chivalry (of German and Roman origin - is that what makes us "British"?) :noidea:
                        I'd be really interested to hear what "British" means and if it is indeed fundamental to the origin of the Britons of ancient times or, from a succession of (adapted) cultures from historic invaders.
