I think these are grown as summer bedding plants, but they like somewhere warm or even hot.
You probably could grow it as a conservatory or greenhouse plant, but light requirements mean it wouldn't work well as a house plant, I don't think.

        Indoor.
No. 4 I reckon ligustrum ovifolium, rather than a cotoneaster

        4. Mystery plant leaves are alternate.
This rules out Ligustrum as leaves of this are opposite. CIMG1687.JPG LIGUSTRUM OVALIFOLIUM 30-06-2009 10-51-07.JPG

@Silver surfer , can we rule out a fuchsia? It's too dark to rush out and check the leaves on my cutting outside the back door and online pictures aren't very clear.

I will try and remember to get a photo of the underside of the leaves in the morning @Silver surfer , and with luck a clearer photo of the whole thing.
Thanks for the info re the Aloe @flounder.

            Of course, you're right.
Could it be a c. horizontalis seedling? Definitely not franchettii...stems tend to be greyish and furry

I have cotoneaster that look just like that. :) I don't know the variety. I will take a photo later.

Here's a picture f the underside of the leaves @Silver surfer plus another rubbish one of the plant as a whole. I am no David Bailey (one for the more mature members there).

I have also attempted a 2nd photo of the plant kindly identified by @Scotmac as a "Box honeysuckle", in case that helps to confirm its id .

Here is one of my cotoneasters. It self seeded, so I can't tell you the variety, but it grows fairly upright to about 8 feet (if allowed)!

Box honeysuckle is otherwise known as Lonicera nitida or Lonicera pileata. I don't know which of the two you have, I'm afraid.

I retract Cotoneaster franchettii... still think it might be a cotoneaster... or not...
