I think the neighbours had been considering the idea, but the council said no. I believe one issue we have is the street should still technically be available for vehicles to access, even though nothing bigger than a small car has attempted it as long as I've been there. Supposedly it has to be kept clear for emergencies (fire service) to get to the adjacent factory, but I don't think they'd be able to squeeze a fire engine along it, even if all the plants and ornaments were cleared. For sure, when a phone company was installing fibre on the poles recently, they didn't attempt to get their van in, but just used ladders.

It is an issue for me at the moment with the honeysuckle. I thought about building a trellis archway over the back street, but started to wonder if some jobsworth at the council would complain as it could restrict vehicle access, even though we know no vehicles are going to use it. Personally, I don't think it's a problem. If needed, I could remove a trellis far quicker than the rest of the street could be cleared for access. Maybe next year, if I'm happy with the way it looks growing across the string I've tied, I'll be a little braver.
