Maybe the company who ran the GW forum just sold off everyone's data.
I understand it had nothing to do with the BBC.
Probably worth a bit of money.

I've recently been getting sales-type emails from GW on the email address that I used to use for the GW forum. It seems they've started using the address list. There was an option on one of them to "rate this email" so I clicked the thumbs down, and a window popped up asking for feedback, with a space to type. I put please remove this address form your mailing list. We'll see if it has any effect (not holding my breath though).

I just looked at another of those emails and spotted an Unsubscribe button at the bottom. Clicked and done (hopefully).

There's a forum actually called "Gardening Forums" and I strongly suspect your email came from them, @Purple Streaks. :) There are very few members from the UK on there AFAIK.

I'm a member but I don't get any updates, so I think what you'll need to do is go to your settings on there and disable update emails.

Yep, I've just logged in and located it there. You just need to go to Preferences and untick all the boxes under "Email Options", that should stop all email updates from the website. Don't forget to save your changes and then wonder why nothing has changed like I always seem to!

Gardening Forums has been going through some big problems over the last few months due to lack of administration control. It changed hands some while ago and the new owner has failed to attend to it's problems. A number of members, including myself, have tried to resign our membership but have been ignored.

There are new moderators now but there's a long way to go before the forum is running properly. I no longer consider myself a member and have no intention of returning to it.

I changed my email address to a short term one and also changed my password to an unrecorded random one. So I couldn't go back even if I wanted to.

I've not received any emails Nigel. In fact having requested resignation some while back a new member of admin tried to talk me out of it. Having said no again, nothing has changed.

I used to subscribe but stopped when much of the content seemed to be modified and recycled from previous years. That, along with the proportion of content compared to adverts heading in the wrong direction. I only buy the May edition now to get the 2for1 access to gardens.

I haven't bought one for just over four years, I think. It just seems so redundant with all the stuff available online! I used to get really excited about a new issue coming out and kept most of them as a sort of magazine reference library because some of the articles were so informative, but the quality seemed to drop in more recent years.

Where I think they could be different and interesting is doing more stories about ordinary gardeners transforming their gardens (irrespective of size), but I only saw this sort of content occasionally around the time I stopped buying it. They did some quite nice wildlife gardening articles, but for the price of about 4 magazines I can get a comprehensive book on the subject! So what exactly is the benefit of being a subscriber nowadays? Just the discounts on garden visits and free seeds? :dunno:

@Nikolaos I subscribed for 6 or 7 years but stopped for the reasons I gave earlier. You don't need a subscription to get the 2 for 1 garden pass. When I got rid of mine, the only part I kept was the section about plants for a particular month. Those are now filed and it's so easy to look through to find ideas for filling gaps.

I only buy one issue a year to get the 2-for-1 pass. It takes about 5 minutes to flick through the magazine but we get days of enjoyment from the pass
