Now it seems winter is finally behind us its time for some grand days out.
Kept it local today with a trip to York.
Started with a visit to the roman walls to see the daffs, not at their best yet but putting on a good show.
Next was stroll along the wall towards the Minster and Exhibition Sq.
A great chance to peer into other peoples back gardens!

After coming off the wall at Exhibition Sq it is but a short walk to Museum gardens. A very popular place today with people enjoying the sunny weekend day.

The gardens are looking good at this time of the year with St Marys Abby in the background

I finished the day with a visit to the art gallery to see the latest exhibition.
Hope you enjoyed sharing my grand day out.

Our Grand day out today was local.
So local it was, a 4.3 mile walk!
It is the Scarecrow festival over the next three days around our village.
Where I live we really go for it.
There are five routes to choose from and off course we went for the longest to kick off with.
4.3 miles in 3.5 hours with dozens of scarecrows to search for.
I have attached a few pictures for your pleasure.
Theres a few scarecrows, a few of plants and flowers around my area.
One or two buildings and for the dog lovers amongst us a couple of pictures of a dog. She told me she was 6 years old and had had 5 litters before her current owner rescued her and is now giving her a quite peaceful live...
and as luck would have a very nice lady was giving away excessive tomato plants, for free.. Theres a picture there somewhere and this chappie appears to be so much healthier then any I have growing. Trouble is she had no idea which variety it is!
    enjoy ....robert

Fabulous photos - Something for everyone there. I love the scarecrows.

Would love to come and have a walk round them too. Where abouts near York are they. I'd be coming up from Barnlsey so not too long a drive.

    Haxby and Wiggington Hec..
    Just North of York.
You need to check in at the methodist church to get a route map and a competition entry form.
Shortest walk I think is about 1.3 miles with four others going up to 4.3 miles which is the one we did yesterday.

Will see if I can get someone to go with me on Tuesday. Hate going out Bank Hols as it is so busy but I've got an extra day this week.

Forecast is not brilliant though - for either day.

Oh that's a shame. I'm not bothered about the competition, would just have loved to have wandered round spotting scarecrows!

It is very enjoyable. We met and chated to alll sorts of people and families were out enjoying themselves, which is something you dont see alot of these days. This time of year the gardens and trees are at their best.
Last year we did three of the walks and it was even hotter then it is this year.
This link will take you to my Picassa album with alot of last years scarecrows for you viewing pleasure

I've just sat and looked through everyone of those photos with a smile getting wider and wider as I went through them. Aren't they fantastic! How do you ever choose which one is going to be the winner? And so much work gone into them
