I hope you don't mind but I photo shopped the pic a wee bit trying to sharpen the image. i don't know if it will help or not.

 

Mum remembers Lupins, Snapdragons, and other 'cottage garden favourites', though she can't remember what they were.

 

Easy then - a bit of research on popular cottage garden plants from the turn of the century and then go for it.

 

almost certainly sweetpeas on the trellis and Rudbeckier in the foreground. not sure about the rest. a briliant project. good luck with it.
