I used to live in East Yorks too, but they threw me out and won't let me back in. Mind you reading loli's post above I might not be trying too hard from now on :)

Pictures, take loads every month, for your own records. I have folders from every year, then you can look back at each thing you have done, and see what achievements made, also if something not right you know what to do to change it.

        Thank you for the welcomes!

From reading that link am I to understand that if I can't come to an agreement about shortening the leylandii I would have to pay £400 to make a complaint and do it forcibly?

I read it that to be that the Council, after a fee of £400 [paid by you] will sit in judgement on the matter and take a decision either way, so it's not cut and dried that they will decide in your favour. Also it's not clear as to who will pay for the hedge to be cut to the required height when the hedge is cut by the Council, should they decide in your favour, if the Hedge owner does not opt to do it himself or hire a contractor to do it. So the cost could fall on the Hedge owner, yourself, or be shared by the both of you. Further enquiries with the Council should clarify the matter. Paying the £400 is no guarantee that the cutting will be done forcibly:dunno:
