As I use quite a lot, depending on circumstances, I also find it easier to say which I would be happy without. Sorry if this is awkward for you :love30: :heehee:

These are the ones I don't, or rarely, use

Actually none of the above. I just happen to like it, its not meant to mean anything, but I can tell you what is happening. (sorry if you realised this)

If, in a post you link to an image and at a later date that image is removed / deleted, you get a white box and a red cross appear. In the case of my signature, the "smiley person" is trying to get rid of the box by poking it with a stick, but the box falls and squashes the smiley person.

I've been using the net since the beggining, when smilies in newsgroup messages where simply a colon, a dash and right bracket meant you where happy, other very simplistic emoticons where available too...about five of them that covered most human emotions and where used sparingly to define an emotion when the written word was not concise enough to convey the emotion.

Emoticons then progressed to smiles as computer graphics programmes improved and we now have the weakth of "smilies" (80 here) to cover those human emotions.

Anyway, I still use the old method by which I use an emoticon to display my mood as opposed to posting them for fun and I do think they are over used by some (that's their choice and I have no problem with that :) )

I still also read posts in the same vein, taking the emoticon into account as I read the posting, but due to the overuse of smilies it proves difficult to read, for example I could read the following in many posts.

"I've just bought a new Rose and I'm jumping up and down doing star jumps with both thumbs up whilst spinning round in circles whilst drinking a beer and laughing out loud whilst banging my hand on the table and theres a crowd of people coming in all wearing sunglasses"

Now to me that's very confusing so I dont read posts with too many smilies as the previous paragraph could so easily have been.

"I've just bought a new Rose, I'm absolutely ecstatic about it and cant wait to get it planted :)"

People use the smilies if they wish, but my choices would be to have smilies that reflect basic human emotions only to enable easier reading, some postings by certain members recently have had upto 20 per posting, it's a shame but I just click on my back button when I see them.

              Steve...:)
