    Hi Rosa,
I've got 4 house plants that I have had for 7-8 years which seem pretty indestructable (have had many others that didn't last!). They all get quite similar conditions to what you're describing (mostly shade, warm place).

    They are:
maidenhair fern: http://www.flowers.org.uk/plants/plantfacts/adiantum.htm - this is the most tempremental probably, it dies back if its not happy then re-grows.

Peace lily: http://www.crocus.co.uk/findplant/results/?ContentType=Plant_Card&ClassID=85031&CategoryID=20 - seems especially tollerant of shade and lazy watering, need regular feeding though else the tips of the leaves start to go brown.

Parlour Palm: http://www.crocus.co.uk/findplant/results/?ContentType=Plant_Card&ClassID=85049&CategoryID=20 - no problems with this plant at all, I've got it in a really dark corner and it's quite happy (when the cats aren't eating it)

The last plant I am not sure what it is called, looks a bit like a Dracaena with dark green foleage all the way up a stem that grows quite slowly. Mine is about 1.5m tall now! It is pretty much indestructable.

I got them all from Ikea for about £1.50 each when I was a student.

hi sparkle, thanks got an aroid palm from tesco,s Ã?£4.99 seems to be doing ok, will keep ikea in mind as my friend likes to go there, you cant grumble at Ã?£1.50 as all these other plants and the aroid are Ã?£19.99 each at crocus on line. [IMG]

the crocus ones are probably mroe established and better looked after to be fair, but I am appauled by how expensive buying plants online is. I was stung on some ferns recently.

Sparkle, I have seen the picture advertised on crocus the same plant as i got from tesco and to be perfectly honest with you the two looked no different, have a look at bananamans at advice plant for dining room then log onto crocus to have a look at their Aroid palm, they are the same size even.
You are right about price difference even some of the garden centres prices are expensive. [IMG]
