Well I think you will find the Dover Calais route is the busiest for lorry traffic and cars and vans.

I dont think any other port, let alone the stuff the tunnel shifts, could move it all.

As for airports, they are a non starter for moving that kind of amount.

The French, who ever protests next, know that and so that is the route they always block first.

It is @pete - but if the French are going to continually make it non-viable, we will have to seek alternatives, even if they reduce the traffic as opposed to taking it away completely. Our counterparts in France are fully entitled to protest if they wish, however it is up to us to do what we need to do to protect ourselves from their disruption and ultimately not be bullied by those in another country.

So where might the alternatives be.
Its the shortest sea route to Europe and it has the tunnel.

I am no logistics expert @pete, so I cannot answer that - most of the alternatives are going to be longer without doubt, but if the short route is not running at all.....

As an old boss of mine used to say "you can always sell something really cheap when you don't have it"

We can always look at leasing a C5 aircraft and transport by air. Get a few trawlers in one of those!

Only after we have hired an An-225 a few times... even if we don't carry much in them, it would be great to see and hear them, and fun to watch the remain voters heads explode.

Apparently the only things that can be moved fairly easily across the border are race horses, where several customs simplifications are in place.

:old: For educational purposes and further reading:

                  IMPS04700 - Imports - HMRC internal manual - GOV.UK

Standard average values agreed centrally between the Department and trade representatives are acceptable only for horses imported for sale by auction (‘docket system’) at Tattersalls, Doncaster and Ascot (Botterills) sales (see also IMPS03380), provided the auctioneer acts as importer. Details of the agreed standard average values can be obtained from the Bloodstock Helpdesk.

I see that the ERG are offering their support to the FTA - and Nigel Farage is supportive - this must be a good deal.

In a couple of years time - no one will admit to voting remain....
