      Carol

I too am not a fan of Carol. I find her 'gushing laugh' about three quaters along a sentence a tad false and somewhat annoying.

I'm not Carol's biggest fan, but you can't knock her knowledge.

I did like Toby, he seemed to have an enthusiasm, more so than Joe.

I think the main difference in the two programmes is the channel they're on. GW on the Beeb has the edge for me - I think that Alan Titchmarsh has sold out to the commercial channels now.

The only time we see him on the BBC is for the Chelsea Flower Show coverage. He has one of the RHS top honours and is a favourite of the royals so I guess that makes him top man to present the show.

Having said that, I am still full of admiration for AT. Who can say they wouldn't go where the money is if they had his opportunities? Fame is transient in most cases and his knowledge, personality, enthusiasm and versatility have given him the longevity and fame he deserves. He's done well for a lowly born Ilkley boy.

Sadly he was sidelined to make room for Monty's return. Now, if they were to replace Joe with Toby...:heehee:

I miss Toby too. But I have to say for me Monty is the ultimate. I loved his Italian Gardens series, and I love his voice... gentle poetry.

I'd love to see Toby somewhere on Tv. I don't think the BBC made the best of him. The reason Monty works is because he's not doing anything other than pottering around in his garden and talking the viewer through everything he does. Simple and educational. Plus a slightly unhealthy crush on a much older man!!!

That's beautiful Victoria. Sums him up for me too. I love his enthusiam, knowledge and consumate ability to get over what he's doing, without being patronising.

I think Toby's not far behind but just lacks something - not sure what it is but I hope he gets another chance to uncover it.

Yes I did Alana, and thank you. when I got my new seeing machine I made a couple of cushion covers of our chickens. Mind you I did use artistic license, we don't have any that colour!!!

I'm supposed to be setting up a website to sell the odd thing or two, but there's always something more pressing. Like my three boys!!

            Allo my lovely .
As a Chelsea worker u have probably met them both , haven't u ? When Monty was new to G.W. stepping into Alans shoes , I wasn't so keen but I've definately warmed to him , bless his cotton sox . I've seen Monty speak at the G.W. show and run into him when I worked at Chelsea and he just seems to be 100% genuine . No front to the man . Alan almost pulls this off but , bless him, after so many years dealing with the general public he's just starting to seem slightly jaded. Monty just has so much passion for everything and everyone . He's got my vote but as has been said , weem damn lucky to have either of them , let alone both

amazing how everyone differs. Bring back Toby for me and get rid of Monty - he just drives me nuts and what was he wearing tonight, now I know it is a gardening programme but just thought he looked like a school teacher from the 1970s!

I quite like Alans programme - although agree a bit 'glossy' and magaziney - but still agardening programme without Monty Don so worth watching :)
