It can be quite heartbreaking- My eldest dog Minnie was carrying pups, we managed to get a scan and there were at least 3 puppies moving around... They were all born dead and she was left with a heart murmur. Vets thought she must have caught something like rheumatic fever.
One of her earlier puppies, Blossom, had puppies and like Waco's dog had to have a caesarian. 18 months later she developed kidney failure and died- I was told this is a possible reaction to an anaesthetic in susceptible dogs.
So whilst puppies are so lovely, it is not all joy, do think hard and consider how you would feel if Rosa suffered. My Blossy's pregnancy was accidental. Had I known that it was possible she would have had the morning after injection, but I didn't and she paid for my mistake.
I hope noone will suggest that I should have had her spayed- If I had done she could have had the anaesthetic reaction after that op- at least I had her for 6 years.

Liz - its just one of those things, and I don't say that lightly - don't blame yourself, these things happen. My friend (who has farther of my litter) her bitch has just aborted, and there could have been no owner more careful, you were just unlucky and because you are such a kind caring person, the loss weighs heavily for you.

Puppies are a joy. when I got my first dog Nona I used so sit on my bed crying with her as I knew that some day she would break my heart - aged 7 she did, but I would not have the time we had together taken away from me.

I think worse than losing them is if they were to lose us, at least we know that we will be there to look after them for all their lives, I wonder who will do that for us!.........???
