I get all kinds of poo in my garden. Most of it I assumed was from foxes though.

I saw a Hedgehog in the daytime on the weekend, it was only later than that I read I should've rang a local Hedgehog centre.

It didn't seem distressed really so I did start thinking it might do more harm than good taking it away from it's home. But should it be hibernating now? There's a quite a few down this street I think, you can always hear them at night and I've seen a few as well.

        Hi

What time ? did you see

its too warm for them to hibernate, so gives the late breds a chance to put weight on , I havnt seen any all summer, my Spike hung around for about two weeks then off he went.

Nor have we, but in the last week or so we've seen several out in the street and a big one inside the garden outside the hen run that had them all up on their straw bale making alarm calls.

I haven't seen our Fred for a couple of years but I see the droppings left behind in the Spring so I know when he/she has woken up as it likes to feast on the wild bird food I put out:snork:

@nFrost if you do have a hedgehog visiting at this time of the year you could try putting either some cat or dog food in a bowl outside and see if it revisits your garden. You will soon know if it is a hedgehog feeding out of the bowl as it will leave the bowl in a bit of a state with either dried food or muddy footprints in the bowl as they don't seem to have any table manners:snork:

You might have a baby one that is too small to go to full hibernation so if it does come back into your garden and you haven't got time to feed it then you will need to contact the BHPS (British Hedgehog Preservation Society.Cant think of the number off then tp of my head)and they would give you the number of your nearest hedgehog fosterer. This will only apply though if it comes back though:biggrin:

Thanks for the list Spruce and will have a look through it:smile:

A few years ago I rescued two baby hedgehogs near a dual carriage way so stuck them in the top box of the moped I was riding at the time and took them home .As it was near to xmas I called them Holly and Ivy:snork: and kept them in an old rabbit hutch over winter until I released them in the spring.I fed them mainly on cat food which they loved, but didn't like cleaning them out as they stunk,:hate-shocked:

                Great pictures/

I have been feeding the wild birds treating them to mealy worms. some fell in my half constructed rockery, plants not in yet and found a hedgehog munching on left overs, well a great surprise so I started to feed it. Tonight we had two hedgehogs such a delight to watch them eat. So plenty of water and food for the hogs now it would be nice to keep them visiting. I have been in my house 18 years and never saw any till this year!

I did accidently disturb another sleeping one in early march in my front garden who was much bigger so I think there are three of them. I do have a little area that is all shrubs and trees, I cannot get to the bottom so I suspect they have a home in there. lots, of leaves, twigs and even a blackcurrant bramble I cannot get to. My extension patio ends there and then there is about a two foot drop to that area. Perfect for Hedgehogs. Even the cats avoid there! I am attaching a couple of photos from my phone, no flash and very basic but at least you can see what I mean.

A hedgehog crossed the road and then jumped up and down and up and down in a dark muddy puddle. He then returned to the other side of the road,

he came back a DIRTY DOUBLE CROSSING PIG.

Did people know those "lovely" badgers eat up all the hedgehogs ? The poor little buggers are rolled over and their stomachs are eaten out. :frown:
