Heat and sun perhaps Peter ... :heehee: Thank you for your lovely comments. xx

I wonder how our Michael (Bilbo) is doing with his 'The One' .... I found one seed and sent it to him and he said it germinated ... Michael .....

I have had to remove your Salvia ?????? you sent me which has sent out shoots everywhere in order to accommodate my giant Mandevilla. The Geranium is quite a clump now but no flowers ... ?????

I have one seedling grown from your Newbiscus seed Victoria and mine is very leggy also.
My thinking is that Newbiscus is probably a hybrid and the seedlings are reverting to one of the parents.

Vicky, do the Newbiscus flowers still only last a day?

Hi guys, I think the Newbiscus needs sun ... which I don't think any of you have had much of lately. I have to seriously water mine two/three times a day. The Brugmansias need even more water ... Perhaps you guys should, if they are not, be in the brightest / sunniest part of your gardens? :spinning:

Pete, I am sure it is a hybrid but one that is tolerant of some frost.

Yes, Clive, they only last a day, perhaps two if the sun is not too strong but we are in our just above 30s at the moment so they 'hang their heads' as the blooms open because they are so large and heavy!

We have been to 35c these past couple of days and I am having to water two things in particular five times a day ...

The Brugmansia which appears to be a Versicolor as it is white now and will be gold yellow tomorrow or the next day ...

    Brug 20 Jul 12.JPG

and the giant Hibiscus 'Newbiscus' ...

    Big Pink 20 Jul 12.JPG

... which you can see is suffering with the heat even with the many waterings ..

Must say, I have just now for the first time uploaded photos direct onto GC ... and it has been quite a nightmare and I have edited about six times ... maybe I am thick but I think I'll stick to Photobucket in the future.

Our temps have gone back down to normal with highs of 26-27c and lows in the high teens thankfully.

We have seen Jacarandas bloom for a second time in some places but ours never has ... until this week ... and you can see the current blooms, this year's seedpods (green) and last year's seedpods (brown) ...

The Brugmansia is now about two meters tall ...

A couple of shots showing the Hibiscus 'Newbiscus' with ten blooms open at once ... at 30cm each bloom it is difficult for the stem to hold them upright ...

Must try a jacaranda again myself Victoria.:blue thumb:

Brug looks good, and so does the Hibiscus.

The seedling I have of the Hibiscus is just growing straight up, not bushy like yours.

What is the banana like plant in pic 5 left of the newbiscus?

        Thanks Pete and Penny. :)

To the left of the Hibiscus is a Musa Cavandish, Pete. I have another one on the kitchen patio. To the right of the Hibiscus is a Schinus molle. I guess you figured the big-leafed plant in the vertical photo is the Strelizia nicolai. :WINK1:

Yep. I guessed the big leaved Strelitzia.
Are you hoping for Nanas on the Cavandish?

My Schinus, (your seed) are flowering yet again this year.
