    He's a beauty and had at least a metre cut off the top in the Autumn. When you figure this is it in February ... but it is a Winter bloomer here being in the ground. My others in pots are not even thinking of blooming yet.

      Here's my new Azalea (no name) but as pretty as the other ...

      A trial with me after many years ... so we'll see if I can keep them alive. :fingers crossed:

        That was the problem I always found with them, they sulked in hot weather and liked autumn, but by then we were getting stormy weather with strong winds and of course the chances of frost was increasing.

          Exactly ... but mine don't have to fear frost.

                I've just been looking through your threads @Victoria, wow, what a fantastic garden and range of plants you have! The Hibiscus and Poinsettia in particular remind me of the time I spent growing up in the Caribbean in the 1960s when my parents left Britain after one of the worst winters in living memory! I don't remember the winter but I remember the first coconut palm that I saw outside our hotel on arrival. Then my interest in gardening really began! I look forward to seeing many more happy reminders:).

                  @Plantminded,

                  Thank you for visiting my garden and enjoying it bringing back good memories for you. It must have been great growing up in the Carribbean Have you been able to go back since? Was it the Winter of 1963/64?

                  I love tropical and sub-tropical plants and flowers. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis are on the top of my list ... I have six in the ground and 8/9 in pots plus two H syriacus.

                  I do a new link every year and update each month (or more often) and I hope you will continue to visit. :smile:

                    Hello @Victoria, thank you for your reply. Yes, it was the winter of 1963/64! There's a good BBC documentary about that time, it looks ancient! After leaving to return to the UK, I was lucky enough to be able to go back regularly as my brother continued live there until about 7 years ago.

                    I will certainly be a frequent visitor to your thread and look forward to seeing more!

                          I thought after the fact that the harsh Winter was actually 1962/63 as it was my last year of school and I had to walk to school in knee-deep snow (I was only 4'8" at the time) and left for Alabama in July 1963 ... where the temperature was 100F!!!

                          I just updated my Hibiscus thread this morning which may be of interest to you.

                                Oh yes, I forgot. I had j cut back both Bamboos to about 30cm/12in tall, or should I say short, as they both were very thin never having been cut before ...
